The Triple D thread
Diners, drive-ins and dives. Love that show. Guy whatshisface can be a bit of a D himself with his goofy cliches, but he doesn't seem too bad.
The food they show makes me want to go on a cross-country trip. But, is it real or is it hype? Anyone been to any of those restaurants on his show, and were they as good as the show suggested? I've been to one, mamma cozza's in ana-slime. Definately a dive but pretty good food. not great, but pretty good. In that case I'd hafta say the show was kind to them. http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=diners+drive+ins+and+dive+mama+cozas&FORM=VIRE2#view=detail&mid=F954B34D7578E359F1F1F954B34D7578E359F1F1 Last edited by sammyg2; 05-22-2014 at 09:34 AM.. |

I think what you see of Guy on that show is the real him, not fake like a lot of shows. I like the show with Alton Brown as he crossed the country on his motorcycle and showcased places along the way. Haven't been to any of the DDD places but have been to one on the AB show several times and it really is that good.

I've been to one of the places in Houston. It was good, definitely not the usual crap at most fast food or quick lunch spots, but I don't know that it was anything to write home about.
Yeah, the guy is ok in small doses. I don't know that I would want to hang out with him all day if his off screen personality is the same. I suspect he cranks things up to 11 for the camera.

I thought this was going to be something from the chest thread. DDD could be
![]() ![]() ![]() There is a local place that was featured on the show. It was a busy place before but after the show they were swamped with business. I have never seen the show.

Yup, like good eats too but haven't seen a good one in a while, they keep showing re-runs of off the wall episodes.
I really likes the one where he made pork ribs in foil in the oven, i tried that and it turned out great. |

I catch it once in a while. I'm not really a fan of the host, a bit much for me but I've seen a few places I'd like to visit. I like the enthusiasm for food but I think his routine gets old quick.
Also agree with the Good Eats reruns, lot of great tricks/advice in there. Same thing with the older No Reservations, Bourdain's been to some wild placed and eaten some amazing food. |

Triple D is one of the few shows on tv that I watch. It's great. Been to a lot of the local places here in the NJ/NY/PA area. Those are the kind of places I like to eat at. Not a "fine dining" type of guy

I went to Pete's Breakfast House in Ventura (had eaten there before, great food) after DDD did a show there. After breakfast I was talking with the Wife who owns the place and asked her about her experience and whether there had been a change in business after the show aired.
She told me that they had been approached 2 times before by the show, but they are always so busy figured they didn't need the publicity. After the third request they relented and DDD scheduled a shooting date. They shot over 3 days, shooting coverage on days 1 and 2 of recipes being made, people eating, interviewing customers about the food and ambiance, etc. On the third day is when Guy shows up. This is when they shoot the interaction of guy with the chef, customers etc. She's a very nice British lady and did very well on the show, joking with Guy and making an excellent breakfast roll and chorizo burger as the featured lunch course. She told me not everyone has the right chemistry with Guy and that 1/4 to 1/3 of the shows have to be scrapped due to "personality conflicts" (boring chefs, angry chefs, etc.). Also, The customers have to show up all 3 days wearing the same clothes for continuity. If you're in Ventura, definitely go there and try the Pancake Roll... ![]() Home

I've been to a bunch of them around KC, and when we travel I try to find a place along the route that's been on the show. We have a rule when we travel we will not eat anywhere we can eat at at home.

Feasting on Asphalt was the name of the show with Alton Brown. I use his pork ribs in the oven reciepe as well and finish on the grill for the smokey flavor.

Thanks for the title, I couldn't remember it.
We use several of his recipes. Most aren't that much work and turn out pretty darn good.

love alton brown, can tolerate guy in very small doses.
ab seems like the sort of person you would enjoy sitting around with enjoying a drink, while guy seems like someone you would want to throat punch after a couple of minutes. |

Well said. I'm starting to think some of the cheesy Good Eats skits/puppets are funny.

In San Jose, the Falafel Drive In (Welcome to Falafel Drive in) was featured. It's busy all the time with a long line. I found the food ok. The pita bread always falls apart which is a downer for me. I dunno why it's always busy as I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there. I have friends who absolutely love the place.

I've actually always wanted to go to Super Duper Weenie in Fairfield CT, funny name, like a good wiener here and there.
Triple D went there and went crazy over how amazing the hot dogs were... I've told many people since how incredibly disappointing it was. I hope other places he's spotlighted were better...sounds that way. Place for fantastic dog in CT, Blackies or Frankies ![]()
