Yumm. Blue corn tortillas. Anyone else like?

Blue Corn tortillas?

Maybe not...

They're blue, and they're corn, but they're not BLUE CORN.

These were brought home a few days ago from a store in New Mexico.

Uh, no... there is such a thing as blue corn on the cob, those are fake blue corn tortillas.

White corn is sweeter that yellow corn.. can't say I can tell the difference between blue and yellow corn... but then, have I really had blue corn?

Doode, there has to be a tortillarea (place that make fresh tortillas) in a city as big as Seattle. You don't need all those preservative and crap in your tortillas!

They WERE fresh. The store they were bought at makes them fresh there. Still warm in the package when she picked them up.
These came from Los Lunas New Mexico a couple days ago.

They'd probably go good with some of that salsa made in New York City.

I've grow blue corn (we called it "Indian Corn") and I've eaten it. I don't see a big difference. Most blue corn is an "heirloom" cultivar that is genetically closer to wild native corn than more modern open pollinated (non-hybrid) corn and a long way from hybrids. But over the centuries they bred the blue out of it for good reasons. Yield is one. Using blue corn is part of the "getting back to our roots" movement and is more authentic, but if taste is your criterion, I don't see it. Putting dye in yellow corn meal is just marketing, but it may not be the only thing they do. If Senior Smith's tortillas are tasty, they'd be smooth peckin' even without the dye.

You could probably make "blue" corn tortilla using puréed blueberries, blueberry juice, or blueberry concentrate as natural coloring. Or use the peels from purple potatoes.

Corn is a human invention, it does not exist naturally in the wild.

Thought to be at least at least 7,000 years old.

It's technically a grass.

I find people getting riled up about 'GMO' corn to be pretty silly. Nothing natural about modern corn.

I don't give a feck about the "Blue" corn, but that apostrophe is killing me.

We like the Clancy's ('restaurant style' ???) Blue corn tortilla chips.

Labeled as all natural, no artificial flavors, no artificial colors, 0gm trans fat, MSG free, made with certified organic corn.

Lowest cost vs. any others we've come across. Available from that German owned chain Aldi's.

I am eating dinner with my mother in law who is from Mexico and yes they do make blue corn tortillas. The stuff you find here in the store are not what you find there though. She calls it garbage. We have a lot of Mexican stores here in Tucson and I have become spoiled from eating the made from scratch meals that my wife and mother in law make.
