What evidence do you have that the wrong people were terminated? Or that those who raised the issue and were ignored by management were the ones fired?

There will eventually be a criminal investigation, presumably the same people fired will be found to be at fault.

The same thing happens any time the engine shuts off. Out of gas? Same problem... Lose your accessory drive belt/s? Same problem. Etc.

There have been individual defects that killed a lot more people but this one gets a bunch of attention. Hell, 300+ people die every year from slipping and falling in the bathtub.

You're right. Mea culpa.

Prior to the recall, the parents of Brooke Melton, a Georgia woman who died in the 2010 crash of her Cobalt, had sued GM, alleging that their daughter’s death had been caused by ignition problems. Brooke’s car shut off and then spun into oncoming traffic.
Seriously, WTF? Do people really believe this shhh!tt?

You 'can't steer' and you 'can't brake', but you spin into oncoming traffic? That's about the least likely event I can think of. Maybe you rear-end a car or truck, or you are headed to a tight turn and you can't negotiate it, but spinning into oncoming traffic? BS.

The answer is that a competent driver probably would not have had difficulty dealing with the situation, but that assumes JQ Public knows what he/she is doing, which is usually not the case.

Always blame the party with the deepest pockets.

Alcohol - and lots of it, make the loss of power brakes and steering quite deadly at speed. Pretty sure a lot of these deaths are young people coming home late at night with a lot of drinks.

It fits the profile of the owners of this type of car that I have met. Might also stretch to driving under influence of drugs.

Of course, losing your kid from them being drunk is a harsh thing to accept, so find some other blame.

IF the lock on the ignition triggered, that is another matter. When I get in a vehicle, seeing what its like without the motor running is something I like to do.

I thought brake boosters had several stops in reserve?

'Back in the day' I used to shut the engine off and roll into my parking spot late at night. Never a braking issue.

Perhaps this was the logic employed at GM?

How many broken serpentine belts kill people?
Exactly! Proximate cause is lacking. Driver crashed the car. Airbag didn't work because key turned to off because of defect. First, cause of crash not related to key defect. Second, would have working airbag saved them?

GM claims the employees 'knew' and did nothing. Time will tell.

But if they got a 'package' then this is just window dressing.
