Quick: how many phases of water are there? If you answer three (liquid, gas, and solid) you'd be wrong. There are at least 5 different phases of liquid water and 14 different phases (that scientists have found so far) of ice.

Remember the supercooling we talked about before? Well, it turns out that no matter what you do, at -38 °C even the purest supercooled water spontaneously turns into ice (with a little audible "bang" no less). But what happens if you continue to lower the temperature? Well, at -120 °C something strange starts to happen: the water becomes ultraviscous, or thick like molasses. And below -135 °C, it becomes "glassy water," a solid with no crystal structure.

At a molecular level, water is even weirder. In 1995, a neutron scattering experiment got a weird result: physicists found that when neutrons were aimed at water molecules, they "saw" 25% fewer hydrogen protons than expected.

Long story short, at the level of attoseconds (10-18 seconds) there is a weird quantum effect going on and the chemical formula for water isn't H2O. It's actually H1.5O!

Water has the second highest specific enthalpy of fusion of all substance (after ammonia). The specific enthalpy of fusion of water is 333.55 kJ·kg−1 at 0 °C.

Water has the second highest specific heat capacity of all known substances. (Ammonia has the highest specific heat.) Water also has a high heat of vaporization (40.65 kJ·mol−1). The high specific heat and heat of vaporization result from the high degree of hydrogen bonding between water molecules. One consequence of this is that water is not subject to rapid temperature fluctuations. On Earth, this helps to prevent dramatic climate changes.

I know Sam believes in things that are pretty similar. I don't think you can make a blanket generalization about a person's intellect over a single belief.

I am more concerned about the mental health of people who think they know everything, have all the answers, and are unwilling to consider other viewpoints. When you point a finger, there are three more pointing back at you. ... Judge not, etc., etc. . Usually I find that people who use personal rules to judge other people are much more lenient about applying the ''rules'' to themselves, or what they want to do.

And regardless as to how we feel about thoughts effecting water molecules, words can be very hurtful when they are directed at a person in an unkind way.

Of course, some people have developed denial as a defensive mechanism to such a great extent that they seem to be unaware of how others might feel. Yet these same people can respond with great unkindness toward others, so we must assume that they know the power of words. Being ''right'' and winning aren't always associated with those thoughts and beliefs we hold that are the most rational. All of us are guilty of rationalizing what we want to believe sometimes.
