Has anyone done "Insanity"?

My wife and I are two weeks into the Insanity workouts on DVD. I have a question for anyone who has been there and done that.

First we started at a relatively low level of fitness. We have been in the gym regularly in the past but nothing recently. I started out at 243 pounds, I'm 6'4". Currently I'm at 237 after two weeks of a decent diet and doing the workouts. She is in better shape than me, I think she's lost a couple pounds so far.

We've made it through the first two weeks and did our second fit test with pretty decent improvement. During the workouts we are both improving but still have to take breaks now and then.

I've heard the second month is a whole other level. I'm considering repeating month one to give us a chance to get in better shape before we tackle month two. The other option would be to switch to p90x after the first month which I've heard is a little easier than Insanity.

What do you think?

Shaun T will stomp your butt....

I was on a tear with Insanity a while back. It made me sweat so hard that I decided I should only do the workouts outside as the puddles required cleanup. Hard to do when you can't walk or lift your arms.

So one morning I busting a move on the front lawn, as our backyard has uneven ground and really threw myself into the even with great abandon! I was just staggering at the end of it. After the cool down, I decided to just lay down for a minute on the soft grass. Apparently I drifted off and was startled awake by the sound of air brakes. I sat up rather dumbfounded at the site of the emergency response vehicle (full size fire truck - egads...) pulled up to our house. I asked what was wrong and the responder stated, "we got a call about a person staggering around and collapsing in a yard..."

I was SO freaking embarrassed!

Never, ever will I do Insanity in the front yard. Its now a "gym only" event. By the way, I highly recommend repeating the first month if you feel that you are barely/not completing finishing each work out.

Yes, and its brutal. The results are real but your body takes an absolute hit...
I will not do it again, truthfully for younger people.

I am doing P90X3 and it is as hard but less cardio. I prefer it over insanity especially now in my 40's.
Results are as good but more balanced. Tony Horton is infinitely more experienced than the insanity guy that has been doing videos for girls to dance and hip-hop and other shtuff..

Pics of before and after? I've been boxing, hiking, pull ups, and random stuff. I prefer it to following a DVD but have always wondered about those programs.

Yeah I've heard p90x is better for us older folks. I'm 41 and my knees can take the jumping still but I did slightly pull a back muscle on Friday at the end of the workout. I had to skip Saturday and let it heal. Back to normal now though.

I'm doing Focus T25 also with Shaun T. I should connect with a coach to help keep me on the program. I can't believe how many squats he has us doing in a 25 min workout!

I have done a several rounds of Insanity and I just completed T25. While it's a good idea to get in a little better shape to continue Insanity, my concern is that you may burn out if you add another month to the cycle. I know I was ready for it to end.

Personally, I like the T25 better (I'm 44). It is still a solid workout and there are times you wished you could rest. However, It doesn't kill you. And to be honest, I'm not sure the extra 15-25 minutes of insanity is getting you significantly better results. I think the end result are very comparable and the 25 minutes is easier to accomplish mentally and physically. It's basically Insanity without the 10 minute warm up and stretch (which is a workout alone).
