Some bonehead...

...parks his 964 in front of his garage and doesn't pull the emergency brake. Car coasts backwards down the embankment in front of his house, through the bushes, and SLAMS into the sidewalk.

Insurance company is leaning towards writing the car off because:
-rear driver's side of the tub is tweaked
-drivers side rear engine mount broken
-rear driver's side quarter panel is damaged where the bumper pushed it up into the taillight
-both heat exchangers and primary muffler are bent
-front bumper, wheel well splash panels and underbody panel are cracked, damaged
-rear bumper cracked
-damage to taillights, center reflector, front right turn signal broken
-decklid has a dent by the latch
-floor dented

So now the BONEHEAD is waiting to see what the appraised value of the car is vs the salvage value, so he can decide whether to buy it back from the insurance company, or buy another one.

I would guess the bonehead has learned his lesson...too bad it had to be so painful.

yeah, it's been a good 11 years since that same BONEHEAD totalled a car by leaving it parked without the emergency brake on.

I once knew a "bonehead", He stopped to drop off some film ( long time ago ), and while filling out the slip, the clerk asked, "is that your truck rolling backwards down the hill?"

I caught my 81' VW PU ( GTI wheels & seats ) by the front bumper but couldn't slow it down and it went backwards into a low brick wall. $1,100.00 to repair.

A lot of details, You must be real close to this guy. It seams you are taking this boneheads side. If I were you, I would stay away from this guy, Do not get involved, He will only drag you down. Hope you have good insurance. I personally know a guy who caused a 3 vehicle accident in his garage only 2 weeks after getting his first 911.

Sorry to hear of the situation. I hope it sorts out in your favor.

Year ago, I sent a VW on a wild ride. Barely go hung up on a landscaping berm. If it hadn't, it would have been 5oft down a slope onto a major highway.

Sorry man

That bonehead is kinda hard on cars.

Yeah I think I likely will buy it and fix it, depending on what the #s are from the insurance company.

I got a quote to fix the driver's rear quarter panel, and to straighten the tub... about 2500-3k. I'd be fine with used turn signals and reflectors etc... that's what it had anyway. And I wouldn't be fussy about replacing the bumpers, I'd fix them enough to not look ratty.

Daddy broke the Funny Car in two years?
I know someone's little girl is going to be almost as broken up as her Daddy.

Time to look for a new one!

This bonehead is going to experience an increase in auto premiums next time.
To avoid this he could fix it himself and not get the insurance co. involved?
If this bonehead keeps doing this he will become uninsurable.

My heart goes out to the owner. If it was a Boxster like mine not a big deal. But a 911 is less easily replaced.....

I have premium protection, so this one's free. It'll be interesting to see what their appraised value is... I can't seem to find any decent ones online for much under 30k.
