				Electric Harley on the way!

It really does make the concept of branding seem quite silly. Choosing a Harley, Ducati, Honda.....when they are all electrical appliances, who cares? Harley-Davidson Plans to Unveil an Electric Motorcycle - NBC News

I wonder if it will have an amplifier and speaker to play some kind of loud annoying noise in keeping with the Harley tradition?

That does it, I'm going out and getting a leather jacket with a "Miele or Die!" patch on the back.

I can't imagine that HD would sell very many of these. A major selling point for Harleys is all that 'Hey, look at me' racket they make once the stock exhaust is swapped for some aftermarket pipes.

Is there a big following for HDs among the younger generations, millennials, etc? Will Harley's popularity start to wain in a way seen with '57 Chevys, '32 Model As? Perhaps Harley is trying to go after a completely different, younger demographic.

I thought the whole point of a Harley was to be a 150dB douche bag?

Joking aside, it's likely a wise move on HD's part. In urban areas, electrics make a lot of sense. They won't be cross country cruisers anytime soon, but thats not the point.

Hmmm... the largest, most successful American motorcycle manufacturer (probably in the whole world, actually) decides to take a big risk on entering a new market and developing new technology. They very same company that most of you complain is stuck in the past. So what do you do? Why, in the finest PPOT tradition of trying to say something witty (or more like snarky) and memorable, you have all managed to make fools of yourselves. Right on que.

Actually, just the words "electric harley" sound obnoxious.

I think it's cool, and the Electric two-wheel market is going to be HUGE, especially when you consider scooters. How many motorcycle trips average <50 miles? Half? Most? I see many more EV bikes on the horizon, and good for HD for getting in sooner than later.

It's all about market segment. Zero emissions, short trips in the city and they can make a profit off them. I of course will not make fun of them to my buddy's who own conventional Harleys.
