Holy Man!...beautiful scenes, all - brings back memories - I was raised in North Dakota and we fished in Montana and Canada many times.
. North Dakota & Montana - two of the few remaining hunting and fishing frontiers in America. . Have fun! . I'm green with Envy! |
5 Wt is the ticket For the Blackfoot. Pay attention what the guide tells you the tips are bigger when you catch fish.
The Fishing is really starting to pick up water is clearing. On the Madison Last weekend. MT is heaven right now! The last scene and several other scenes of The River Runs throught it was actually filmed on The Gallatin River south of Bozeman the Peak in the back is Storm Castle. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1403646109.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1403646141.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1403646356.jpg |
Yeah, I have a sneaking feeling this will be the first of many trips up there to fish.
My main concern is that I won't be able to stand fishing Oklahoma once I've tasted the mecca! |
Fishing close to home is still fun ND. I spent all day Saturday driving all over AZ chasing trout and only got this guy in the net http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/06/25/9usa7u2y.jpg
Check out Lees Ferry AZ for another future trip. There are supposed to be some monster browns up there. If you like catching rainbow trout you will love browns. They fight like a 10lb pissed off Striper. ;) |
Arizona is a bit far for browns, I can head over to Arkansas and fish several areas on the White River that have world class browns. That trip is next on the list!
|
I've been told that if one is headed to Montana, you need to include a decent pair of binoculars in your luggage if at all possible.
For trillions of reasons. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1403684527.jpg |

Have fun, I grew up on the ugly side of the state but that is one my favorite corners of the world. If only I could convince the missus that the winters aren't "that" bad! |
Tell me about it, I've been threatening to move to Montana/Wyoming for several years. My wife says if we move up there it'll be so cold I won't get any action for 8 months! Maybe I should stay in Texas lol.
|
My dad lives in Hamilton, MT and states that many people move up there (from warmer climates) for the spectacular beauty and then pack it up and leave a few years later due to the winters.
|
I love it up there...we bought some land outside Ashton Idaho several years ago..plan is to live there till weather is too bad for the wife then come back to So. California until it warms up again. The area is 45 minutes away from Yellowstone I can see the Tetons from the lot....I love it. Henrys Fork, Warm River only minutes away, I could post pics for days. Hiking to the top of Tetons this summer to spread my Dad's ashes..his favorite place on earth.

I will own a place near Hamilton to live in the Summer. I will then return to Maryland for the winters. A friend of mine lives in a small place in town, near the center of Hamilton. I also used to spend a few days there in the summer on my way to run rivers in Idaho. My best friend lived in Hamilton so we'd stop there on our way up and then back to Cali. Special place. |
It's not "A River Runs Through it" but these are some photos from where I grew up at. It has a different kind of beauty compared to the western part of the state. All the same, I think it's a very special place. C'Mon, it has High School Rodeo as a sport!
It's in Southeastern Montana about 100 miles east of Billings and 45 miles west of Miles City near Custer Battlefield on the Yellowstone River. In a lot of ways it was a great place to be a kid. It's very different from how my kids are growing up, and I think they are missing something sometimes. Forsyth_Montana_High_School_Rodeo_Pictures Some more photos of the surrounding countryside. There's lots of it, and with only about 2000 people in town, it doesn't take long to get there. http://www.montanapictures.net/forsyth_montana_highway_twelve.htm |
i wish you guys would stop talking about Montana. We don't want any durn furners coming up here.

Yes it is very cold and we have critters that will eat you. Great place to spend money in the summers, but no one in their right mind would live here. |
Ooo, it just got better! My cousin moved his meeting from Thursday morning to Wednesday night that week so we get a full day of fishing Thursday instead of a half day. Now he's set up another guided day Thursday in Glacier National Park. Guide said it was a 40 minute drive and then a 30-45 minute hike in to the back lakes. Guide says the fishing is stupid good back there because not many people want to hike back.
Plus a 45 minute hike through Glacier National Park won't suck either... |
Don't forget your mittens and ear muffs! :)
