Ichidai Sushi on Powell is great. Just a suggestion. Unassuming and kinda sketchy, but the Japanese consulate eats there when they're in town. A good sign...

The are plenty of great micro breweries in Portland. Local Pelican Airfinn took me around a few years ago. Don't settle for a crappy chain when there are so many great places to check out... And don't forget to take in some 'weird' while you are there. You really ought to catch a few episodes or Portlandia on Netflix before you go.
