Holy crap---we just felt a huge KABOOM!

Sitting here and we felt a huge boom. I hope that everyone is safe.

EDIT--I modified the title.

I'd bet a nickel (if I were a betting man) this was from a gas leak.

Was it being paid to the lender on PMI who wouldn't acknowledge ownership?

Strange stuff. Although myself and neighbors saw smoke and flames from the street behind us, apparently the explosion was a car wash uptown. We never heard the fire siren or trucks heading this way. That would make sense as the fire station is pretty much next door to the car wash.

We aren't sure what we saw but one of the neighbors went there and the homeowner or occupants seemed ticked that someone called the authorities. Hmmmmmmm. That probably isn't good.

I'll take "consequences of cooking meth, or making Hash oil" for $1000 Alex.

Our quiet neighborhood was rocked by a house explosion a few months ago, just about five doors away from me--I thought it was a plane crash. Turned out to be a hash oil lab. Guy eventually died from his burns. No one had a clue what was going on there.

We had one blow up back in the 80's. The owners had a new furnace installed and the installer forgot to tighten the end cap on the trap pipe. It was proposed that the cap worked itself loose every time the furnace shut down and natural gas filled the house. When the on demand furnace started up ...... boom. Very little fire but there was nothing left of the house but the basement. The houses on either side were moved off their foundations. Fiberglass insulation was found 2 blocks over. No one was home in any of the houses.

Scary stuff.
There is a brand new brick house-looking thing about 2 miles from here. Picture a typical suburban, 5 acre lot with a 1500 square foot brick ranch WITH NO DOORS OR WINDOWS, just a 16ft garage door. Never see a car there. There is no landscaping and they cut the "lawn" with a bush hog about every month. The whole neighborhood has been buzzing about what the h e l l this place is. We expect to see it launching into the air one of these days, streaming meth fumes behind it.

The local news confirmed the car wash previously mentioned did blow up. No cause found yet. No one was hurt but the diner next door has a lot of damage. Luckily it was after both businesses had closed.

As far as the house we thought was on fire---I will wait until the neighborhood gossips find out what happened.

Way too much infrastructure investment for a meth lab...I'd bet on a pot grow-op.
Just after I had moved out of an apt. building back in college, a gas leak in the laundry room caused a huge explosion leveling one 3 story building and condemning a couple of others....nasty stuff.

Around here, the electric company will build a house over electric sub-stations in neighborhoods to hide them. Looks like a house with dark windows and a two car garage door. They do some landscaping and cut the grass every week to look like the rest of the neighbors. They also make cell towers look like huge pine trees. Well they are suppose to look like pine trees!

Wait. Are you saying the Car Wash was masquerading as a meth lab?

Back in the late 70s a restaurant in downtown Auburn, AL blew up because of a gas leak.

Explosive Exclusive: 78 never-before-seen photos of the Kopper Kettle explosion of 1978 | The War Eagle Reader

About a year later I heard a local radio spot for something and they said "we are located across the street from the crater in Auburn" Natural gas makes a good bomb if you ignore the gas smell long enough.

I did. It was a lot longer ago than I thought, but here is the thread from 2011. One guy built most of it himself. After spending years building the place, no one lives in the house, I never see a vehicle there except every once in a while the guy who built it (a middle aged guy in jeans an T shirt) shows up with a brush cutter on a trailer and cuts the "lawn."

Something strange here

My guess too - a telco switchgear building probably. Very common. I used to work on them regularly. See any big electrical feeds going in?

Or it's CIA.
