Nice driver car:

I've often said that I would never want to own a car that's too nice to drive. The cool thing is that there are collectors who just insist on driving their cars, no matter how valuable and/or irreplaceable they might be. Here is a prime example...a friend with a truly amazing stable and he drives them all. Ultra valuable Porsches, Ferraris, a couple of Miuras and this one-- an original, unrestored 35k mile 300SL.

That car sounds amazing as well. He drives the snot out of it. It is not restored in any way and has 99% original paint--there is a little repair spot around one headlight from a boo-boo 40 or 50 years ago.

IMO there's no point in owning incredible vehicles unless you enjoy and drive them.

Garage queens make me sad.

Beautiful car! And I agree what's the fun in owning a car like that if you don't drive it!

Stunning car. I will never own a car that I don't drive. Totally defeats the purpose for me.

And he parks between the white lines too. I think with a car like that I would have taken up two spaces.....

dang that's freaking gorgeous! I totally dig those early german interiors with the painted metal dash's and chrome accents . . . .although that's a bit fancier than my 62 beetle

No license plate?

Are the bumper over-riders and fishtail exhaust factory, or are those accesories? To my eye they kind of spoil the tail.

Beautiful car. Good for him.

I'm not so sure I'd want to be parked quite that close to a Super Duty crew cab!

It's a late car, ('62?), and the bumper guards are stock. Not sure about the tail pipe ends, might be an old accessory that was on the car when he bought it. He's trying to get the license plate thing ironed out, wants YOM plates but car is from another state I think.

As for parking next to the PU truck, it may not have been there when he parked. At any rate, the spaces are large enough in that lot and you cannot take more than one space. People are generally not ass holes about opening their doors into other peoples' cars around here, I have many pictures of great cars in public lots.

It's just that around here you'd get pulled over by the first cop that saw you driving with no plate.

As for the Super Duty - those things are crazy tall. At least three of my cars (including my 911 and my Envoy) have scuffs/dents above the belt line that I'm convinced were caused by the bottom edges of truck doors.

I still park in one space but I habitually park out in the far reaches of the parking lots. I can't say the same for my wife or one son.

Did you guys notice the radio? Still works perfectly. When he left, I had a walking head start to my car because he had to pay to get out of the lot. I heard him roaring through the gears towards me and thought it was some modern performance car until I turned my head...just a guttural roar, sucking a hole in the atmosphere.

It's all admirable until some turd brain flings their door into your car and creases the heck out of it.

30 years ago I did my best to restore/save a 1966 Mustang.

It must have been less than two weeks after I helped paint it that the first door dings started showing up.

I was parking in the farthest most remote corners of the parking lots, but the a-holes always had a way of finding me.

I'll never go through that again, which is why I love my car the way it is.

There was a guy quoted in Autoweek (?) who drives some exotic Ferrari as a daily driver. He said something to the effect: "Having a cool car and not driving it is like not having sex with your hot girlfriend so you can save her for the next guy."

I used to live near a guy who drove his f40 more or less regularly......I saw him out in a downpour at one point. The rear hatch was fogging up.
