Another sweet old spoon gets new life.
This 1890 Winchester 22 short get got a new life. For those of you who think the patina of rust has history, I saved a little bag of historic rust just for you.

I've never been a fan of the .22 short, but that rifle could make me a convert. Spectacular.

Henry,
Thanks for posting that. I grew up shooting one of those. It was darned near smooth bore by the time it got passed down to me and the sear was so bad sometimes when you racked the breach closed the hammer would drop. Yes, it was dangerous, but it was mine. Unfortunately, the last time I saw it was when I picked the metal parts out of the remains of the house which had burned to the ground. ![]() Thanks again. It is good to know some of them are still around. Best Les

I have one of those I bought for $75 when I was 10 yrs. old in 1981 for my dad for Father's Day. And yes, they let me walk out of the store with it and I carried it over my shoulder down Main St. to my mom's car about a mile away. I still have it and it's a great shooter.

I've got the 1906 version that shoots both short and LR. Great little gallery guns, real tack drivers. My stock broke in the Northridge quake and I glued it, but have been meaning to look for a replacement stock or a refinish on the re-glued original and forend. Love the case coloring!

I noticed that no one mentioned the yellow paint.
This is a Porsche forum so of course she's laying on the deck lid of my 914/6. ![]() |

Maybe that's really where the bag of rust came from?
In any case the 914/6 is as cool as the Winchester.

Tom Lent @ Baron Technologies took the lead on this restoration. He also restored one of my 1900 Colts and a 1903 Colt Sportsman.

Ah, yes - Henry, you continue to fill me with envy and jealousy. What a cool little shooter, and good for you for restoring it to its rightful glory. "Patina" certainly has its place on some firearms, of historic significance - like Pat Garret's .44-40 Frontier Six Shooter with which he murdered Billy the Kid, and stuff like that. The rest of 'em? I say restore them and shoot them.

Just got a Browning SA-22 in 22 short (only). Not only is 22 short ammo available around here (unlike reasonably priced 22lr) but with 22 Short CB caps it is darn near suppressed quiet.
