Just last week, an oncoming Audi driver on a rural, two lane gravel road came around a blind corner in my lane. She was absolutely flying, rallye style, doing damn near double the 25mph limit. There were houses all around us, with the usual kids, dogs, etc. scurrying about. And yes, she was on the phone, even at that speed. I had to bail into the right hand ditch (thank God I was on the XR that time, too). She missed me by inches. Needless to say, I was livid. Maybe if some of you cell phone yammering idiots had similar close calls, your attitudes would change concerning the importance of making that call while you are driving. To me, there is simply no excuse. Nothing you could possibly be talking about is more important than my life, or the lives of my loved ones. |

Drivers occupy their time with so many distractions in the car now. Cars are just an office on wheels for many. I would think it is less safe for a cycle rider today than 40 years ago. Back when it was just a push-button AM radio in the car dash. Make that loud Harley sound like an early 911 and I'll hang up the phone, open my windows and listen to your ride. ;) |

I hope you're better at it than this guy! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/UpjZNUWNaww" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
You keep doing that to cars on your bike, and one day you will meet your match, guy in car will run you over with his car and it will not be funny to you anymore.
|
Hahahahaha
And I ride a bike. You go around punching windows and kicking doors of moving cars and pretty soon you'll meet someone angrier than you who just jerks the steering wheel towards you. "Oops...he scared me and I panicked"... You invite people to pull over and "discuss it" and you will wind up on the evening news. Maybe for being arrested and maybe for getting your neck broken or your little gun shoved up your ass when you pick the wrong victim. I've been that guy who gets frustrated and expresses anger at bad drivers but it's not smart. Now I just call the CHP on my cell phone when someone is driving in a life-threatening manner. |
Quote:
is that how it works? Harley riders litter the shoulders... |
"Make noise"...? He's bragging about kicking doors, busting off mirrors and inviting people to pull over and discuss on side of the road. That can definitely get you a ticket to Club Dead.
|
So what's it going to take?...a few lawmakers losing their children to in-car cell phone users for them to realize that their campaign contributions are just not worth it?
|

Of course, thinking you can kill someone for busting your mirror can also "get you a ticket to Club Dead." SOme people react even faster and with finality when someone else tries to actually, thoughtfully, kill them. |
I have a riding buddy who is a far better rider than I am. Former AMA motocrosser, has raced in the Baja a couple of times, dabbled in trials, etc. His bike control is phenomenal. He rides one of the Hussaberg 570's with the "upside down" motor.
So, one day in heavy, bumper to bumper city traffic, one of you self important ass holes yammering on his cell merged left, right into him, forcing him into oncoming traffic. Fortunately, there was room to split lanes. He hit the brakes and fell in behind this guy. At the next intersection, like so many distracted drivers, the driver stops about two to three car lengths behind the guy in front of him (another pet peeve with you idiots, by the way). My buddy couldn't resist - he wheelies, slams the skid plate on the corner of the trunk, and proceeds to ride right on over the car. Beautiful. I only wish I was there. Quote:

Of course, like many (most?) here on PPOT, you are clearly just too damn good. Your own blathering on the cell while driving couldn't possibly threaten anyone else's life. |
New cars these days have FB connectivity, text capability, all this useless ****.
They really should levy a HUGE fine for cell-phone driving, like $1k per offense.... That'll learn ya. rjp |

Using a cell phone with hands free operation is legal in CA. I personally don't see a huge difference between talking to someone sitting next to me in the car or on a speaker phone. I don't stop watching the road and my mirrors.
You can go ahead and road rage all you want, then brag about it on this forum. You are free to do that, (until you get killed at least), and we are free to think you're an idiot. Isn't freedom great? :) |

i was juvenile when i was a juvenile.
two lessons learned. i did the exact same thing. very similar. this guy in a beemer convertible has some crap music up loud. the bug up my ass got irritated so i pulled up next to him. two brothers exhaust. i didnt rev the bike, but i kept it above idle. i was right next to him. he flips me off..i said !@#$!@%!%!..we leave at the red light. he was so mad, he pulls his car into me. i had to put my hand on his hood to keep from falling over. so..my bike and leg are hard into his car..hand on his hood..we go across the intersection like that. connected. i come to my senses, pull away from him. pull over on the curb. he races away. in san fran..nobody escapes. he gets caught in traffic..here i go. i race up. not sure what happened..but i was in his car. i pull him out. he looked like he was going to cry. something happened..i realized i was the dick that started it. i put him back down..i was still sitting on my bike..just my torso was in his car. i left him stammering. i promised to myself..NO MORE RAGE. but nooooo.. i had my GF on the bike. (now wife)..some car runs me off the road..alittle. i flip him off..he then runs me off the road..A LOT. he came at me hard. i had to go up on the sidewalk. he tried to kill us. i parked..we got coffee.. never again. head down, keep to myself..ride defensive. level orange. zero offense. i almost got my wife killed. the second lesson stuck. i am bike shopping now. no more loud exhaust for me. i'm gonna do a grown up version now. :D you guys may proceed however without judgement from me. ;) |

Looks like islet is looking for another pissing match speeder. I'm not going to bite. Have fun.
|
Doesn't it get tiring being such an idiot all the time? Do you have to stop and catch your breath on a regular basis?
|
There is something wrong with that guy.
|
thats what she said
|
Actually, I meant to say
"Yeah, it really sucks when people are raging a-holes on the internet for no reason." |

You guys are, of course, right (when are you ever wrong?). It just makes no sense to get physically aggressive from a bike against a car. A little harmless fun ("juvenile", remember?) with some ass clown, maybe. Kicking doors, snapping off mirrors - not so much. A guy could get hurt.
Thank God I have my Land Cruiser for when I get really pissed off. It has a massive brush guard on the front, all welded to the frame and everything. Great for ramming into dickheads that cut me off, are going too slow and hogging the left lane, are yammering on their cells, or whatever. Really wakes 'em up. Surprises most of them, too. I guess most folks have grown used to getting away with their dangerous, selfish behavior, with all you snivelling twits having grown afraid to call them on it. I'm sorry, though - I just find it far too difficult to first log on here to ask all of you what to do, then write a stern (but anonymous) note and put it under their wiper at 60+ mph. |
first off you're a tool, you may provoke him into making an unsafe lane change to get in front of you knocking you to the ground and it would be your fault for being a tool, and before you get all self righteous I probably have over half a million miles on bikes, I raced moto x at indian dunes in the early 70's, and have ridden street bikes since 1975 to date, worked as a motorcycle courier in LA for a while (particularly fun during the olympics), yeah your traffic is nothing like LA traffic, yes cell phones has made it more dangerous for motorcyclist, either quit or adapt, be more alert(you always have to assume no one sees you anyway)you try that stunt in LA you have about a 20% chance of getting run over-for being a tool (pic of my current ride)http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1405444742.jpg

Damaging someone's vehicle because they were on their cell phone and were driving carelessly? Compared to an old lady getting mugged by a bunch of punks? |
I helped Ben prototype his first M&K muffler for 1in1out Carreras on my 84 Targa. It was loud, very loud, but oh so sweet. Went from V8 Mustang burble to F1 just about after 6K...it had a longer can than used in resulting production. Was in stop and go town traffic and right next to me was a Harley guy. Not the midlife crisis type, he looked authentic, craggy and cranky. His bike was loud, and being a Harley, sounded like ****. So to drown him out, I kept the idle a little high. He was annoyed. Everyone else had their windows up and AC on. Luckily for him, the road split soon and he went on his way. But a mile or so down, it came together again and we were right back together again, like old chums. He looked at me and spat, "YOU AGAIN?!" and turned his bike around and drove away the other way. That was juvenile, but a lot of fun.
He had gold rimmed sunglasses on. |
Hahahahahah!!!
I am with you Jeff. Just for the heck of it. :D |

Folks have a right to reasonable peace and quiet.
That is of course, until someone gets a douche-exhaust to make lots o'noise to prove ..........something? Reminds me of the southpark episode about loud motorcycles and their owners. |
thank you Jeff
I can only lay on the horn- |

Damage a vehicle for driving carelessly? No - I never said that. Damage one for damn near running me over while yammering on the phone? Yes. Force me into oncoming traffic, into the ditch, up onto the sidewalk? If I can catch you, I'll do my best to give you something to remember me by. In this particular case, all I did was make it impossible for some self-centered ass hole to continue his cell phone conversation while driving. Purely juvenile fun, as stated in the very title of this thread. Did I change the world? Did I even change his behavior? Hell no. Would I do it again? Hell yes. |

yep.....every time I've acted like that I've felt ashamed after. Even justified, it's just stupid (not addressed to the OP regarding his actions). |

Other guy in a hurry? Maybe he's got good reason. Driving is a lot less stressful that way. I've spent enough time on the track that I feel I've got nothing to prove on the street. |

Truth be told, I totally understand where you are coming from - the problem is law enforcement is not doing as much as they should to stop this cell phone crap on our roadways! It frustrates me as well just driving in my truck - you guys on bikes are even more at risk. You did get piled on here but that's the nature of the beast, you know. FWIW when I read your thread title and you said "can be so juvenile" right then and there you were fessing up to your behaviour so no one can really say you were portraying yourself differently. I remember driving back from a DE weekend at Roebling Road on I-95 south with my '81 SC and open pipes and once in a while someone would be blocking that left lane. Those are the times when you are glad you can drop her down into 4th and subliminally let them know you exist. :) Be safe! |
Quote:
Not me. I'll b!tch and even complain out loud...........................and yet, find myself doing the same thing a few blocks or miles later. Hypocrisy's a b!tch! ...'still in the maturation stage. :) |
Jeff,
Great move. Nobody got hurt, and you annoyed someone who was doing something stupid! |
