new macbook pro won't import my DVDs

Very frustrated in switching from PC to Mac for first time (two weeks ago). I want to import some of my DVD movies to macbook then transfer to my iPad for a very long upcoming plane trip.

Macbook Pro will not allow me to import any of my DVD movies. Handbrake software evidently previously worked, but mac won't allow me to download this software now because it isn't a mac product. Other applications claim to be capable of making the transfer for $60 but I don't trust them and I'm not certain mac would even let me download. iMovie appears to only be for self made videos.

Not happy at all with Macintosh. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You should be able to download non Apple software, just change the preferences.

Access this screen in system preferences and change to the appropriate option. Think that should help you out.

what he said. click to "anywhere" and you're good to go.

PS. You've been on mac for 2 weeks, switching from "ALWAYS" on PC. Perhaps you should relax a bit before condemning the whole platform.

i'm always amazed that when I don't understand something on the mac just type the question in the address bar and 9 of ten times the solution is there.

I could never go back to windows, NEVER!

if you want to be security minded you can leave it set for Mac Store and Identified.

When you encounter an (using windows term here) "Unsigned App" and open the security pref pane it will list the app there and you can quickly authorize it leaving the security settings in place.

Or, if you choose "all" it will ask you "you are about to open an application that was downloaded from the internet - are you sure" etc. and you can make sure you want to at that point.

I've got kids.

They are smart enough that they could probably make a functional nuke out of Lego's and a TV remote but they still manage to do incredibly stupid things.

Oh, I understand!! I got an iMac for my 88-year old Dad a few years ago. I'm constantly amazed at how incredibly twisted up he can get that thing.
