Dash cam's

My wife got hit the other day in her year old new car. No one stopped to offer to be a witness. The patrol officer that showed up said he has dash cams in all his personal cars because of this.
Any of you using them?
If so, what kind?

I just got tagged this spring.
Guy ran a red not one person stopped to be a witness.
Hadn't had an accident in 35 years and this one was deemed my at fault.
No tickets issued.
Dash cam might not be a bad idea...

Only covers in front of you though. Does no good if the hit is from the side or the rear....

Some of them do have a back facing feature. Some can "see" 120 degrees or more.
The front facing camera probably would be able to determine what the light colour was when the car entered the intersection. Would have helped me.

Sucks that this is necessary now... On the plus side, you may catch a UFO while cruising along. Or at least a meteor!

buhahahahaha!

"железобетонное очко – “Anus of Concrete.” Honorific given to drivers who, faced with sudden danger like a huge truck coming head-on, remain calm, only saying “shoot” or “darn” quietly in the background, and efficiently steer away from danger, displaying some seriously ****ing great driving skills."

I bought a Mobius, It doubles for use on bicycle excursions

It takes great pics, and has a mode where the last footage overwrites the first in a loop. Save only what is of interest to you.

I've been using one for about 12 months now and it works great. But I really need to get a second one that points rearward.

It's a Navman "MiVue338". (HD 720P)

I've captured some close calls but nothing really exciting yet.

But depending on the circumstances, it could easily show if you were/were not in violation at the time of an accident, such as completely stopped and got rear-ended or passing through an intersection, turning, etc.

Bill- Thanks for the link. You mentioned bicycle, any experience in that application? I'm thinking would need two, for front and rear coverage.

Just yesterday had a deliberate intimidation by a psychotic woman in an SUV while I was on my bike. Really, really whacko. This was INTENTIONAL. I'll accept to a degree accidents as they happen, buts it a complete different matter when its intentional. I want to nail every damn one of these psycho drivers. No doubt the law won't do anything about it but I'd like to start a site with vid's showing these people to the public. Humiliate them.

Cyclist get no mercy in courts and assuming carrying, self protection by firing back would put also put one behind bars.... but WTF are wrong with people?

BTW: Many years ago while commuting on my fine Colnago bike, was stalked by a massive fatso in an old Cadillac WITHOUT LICENSE PLATES. Honest to god the guy had to sit in the middle of the bench seat, he was that big. Front windows were down, rear tinted windows up, wreaked of cig smoke. I noticed the nutcase while in the heavy in-town traffic during rush hour and at a stop light. Once out of a town, very limited traffic area - but riding in a designated bike lane, I was run off and side swiped. I was so PO'd, and yelled every profane thing and flipped the hit and run azz-hole off. Seeing he then was quite a ways down the road, he does an illegal U-turn and comes after me. Fortunately I had a few areas to ditch him and wait it out, but it shook me up. Pretty much defenseless.

The next day while on the same commute, a County patrol had a routine stop on another driver. I came upon them while on my bike and mentioned the prior day incident. All he could say was I should have filed a report and probably not expect anything more.

From Mobius:
The Mobius can record in beautiful 1080P H.264. HD video quality at 30 frames per second. At the highest video quality, the bit rate will be nearly 18,000 kpbs in wide angle recording. There is also a 720P 60 frames per second option suitable for extremely fast action recording, and WDR (Wide Dynamic Range) recording for low light scenarios. A Time Lapse mode, where the camera will automatically take Time-Lapsed still images is also included. The Mobius can also be configured for motion detect recording; allowing the user to set the sensitivity.

Hoping a front and rear on a bike would capture the majority of an angle / side. More important is capturing with clarity, the license plate. Useless without that.
