dog owners. where does your dog sleep?

i have a small terrier mix. Harry.

harry sleeps in a kennel with the door propped opened. he goes in there himself around 9:00 pm and sleeps. it is the wire kind where it is pretty much open to the room.

i just met two couples. one has a mastiff and the neighbor has a great dane. HUGE dogs. these people have big CA king beds cuz the dog sleeps in the bed.

i admit, Harry is on his last legs. i hope he makes it past Christmas. his collaspe trachea is getting to him more and more. he wheezes. i sometimes grab him in one of his night fits and put him in the bed with us..or i put a pillow on the floor and join him. special circumstances.

dog in human beds a common thing?

All the best to you and Harry. My 15 1/2 year old lab also has wheezy dog syndrome. He has always slept on the carpeted floor or bed or in his youth he'd sneak out of the room and park himself on the couch. He can't get up on anything anymore. Now that we're well past 15, our next goal is 16. We'll see if he makes it that far. I don't sleep with anyone in the bed unless it's an unlucky human female. I don't understand couples who share their beds with their pets. My cats are also banned from the bedroom at night.

Our mini schnauzer, Kiera, has the exact same crate setup as your Harry. She never sleeps on human beds.

Cliff, best wishes on your Harry. I hope he makes it through Christmas and that he doesn't suffer.

I dont get the dog on the bed or couch but it seems like I'm in the minority. I know more than a few folks that think it's odd my dogs never were in my bed. I usually had a dog bed in the house that they used, I wasnt lucky enough to have dogs that liked the crate.

The border collie sleeps under our bed on my wife's side.
She started that when she was a puppy.
No dogs on beds or furniture in our house. (When I am home that is....)

Crate,
Sometimes let her sleep on the bed. She prefers the bed...

My dog sleeps in the garage, where she has her own doggie bed in her area.
Never on the bed.
She has gotten up on the couch a time or two, but she does not get to stay there

We've got two dogs, a 12# dachshund and a 35# mutt that looks kind of like a small stocky gsd. The dachshund sleeps on the bed with us. The other dog sleeps on a dog bed on the floor in the room with us. I can't imagine sleepy with a giant dog on the bed.

Best to all your doggies, gents!
.
My miniature Poodle, Ollie, doesn't shed and has no foul odor.
He sleeps with me when my fiance doesn't spend the night.
Otherwise, he's fine on sleeping on his pad on the floor...and interesting that he sleeps on her side.
He loves to sleep, always has.
At around 2:00 in the afternoon, he often goes and sits in the hallway entrance and just looks at me...waiting for our afternoon nap.
He's a love.
.
Cats? I could only sleep with a cat that didn't shed.

Depends on the weather.

If it is too cold or too hot, they (three dogs: Lab, Heeler, Jack Russel) sleep on big dog beds in the kitchen, which can be blocked off with pocket doors.

All other times, they sleep in the garage on big dog beds, fans if needed. That is where they stay during the day when no one is home as well. I have a movable wire mess type barrier I block off one of the garage door openings off with so they can see out and get the breeze off the river.

Trust me, they suffer not a bit.

My lab has a crate that she was perfectly happy sleeping in unless it's hot out. She also has a dog bed in my bedroom next to my bed. She sleeps there most of the time. She's about 4-5 and is very comfortable in her crate. She is allowed on my side of the bed for a snuggle in the morning or before I go to sleep but she gets kicked off for actual bed time. That's the only time she's on the bed.

Ok, sometimes she takes a nap with me.

Our 18# MaltiPoo Scout spent the first year or so of bedtime in his crate that was kept in the guest bedroom. I did that to ensure he would be fully house trained and - well to be honest I was raised not having pets on furniture/beds. It was obvious he never liked it but he never complained (cried/barked) about it. I went on an extended business trip and that all changed. The last 18 months he sleeps in bed with the wife and I. He's clean, does not shed or smell, and loves to be around people all the time.

I have two 40 pound dogs. They have their own beds and crates in our room. We used to keep them off the bed(unlike the prior dog), but they'd sneak up in the middle of the night. We let it go now but sometimes they fight over the bed.

The cattle dog spends a lot of his day in his crate...by choice.

We have two dachshunds. They are best friends and they sleep in the laundry room. We have a doggie door for them to get outside into the back yard. During the day while we are at work they are locked in the laundry room and of course they have the doggie door to go outside.

We do let them up on the furniture if they want to be up there with a one of us. Often they nap in a dog bed next to the couch. They spend a lot of time in the back yard beings dogs. There are squirrels chase and lots of things to sniff.

Current dog (border collie) gets to sleep in garage with dog door to outside blocked off. During the day he can go in/out of garage whenever he wants. 4 acre yard with pond is circled with underground fence. None of our dogs have ever been in the house let alone our bed. They have all been very happy to live ooutdoors where animals belong.

Dog bed in our room. He is a 50lb spaniel and would love to share our bed but that is not an option. If we leave him indoors while we are out and forget to close the bedroom door he will sneak up there and leave a toy behind just to let us know "fido was here".

All three usually sleep on our bed, but one of my Heelers likes the bed down in the guest room for himself.
Not that they dont have their own nice comfy beds...

Mine sleeps next to my bed until he thinks I'm a sleep, then he goes out to the hallway. Carpet in the bedroom, hardwood in the hallway. The hardwood is cooler for him to sleep on.
