99% of that looked like the motorcycle rider's stupidity was the issue.

I especially like the guy towards the beginning that did the Duke's of Hazzard style bike to boat dismount. He could have almost pulled that off with "I meant to do that".

Some goofy stuff, eh?
I've been riding for almost 58 years...harder and harder to enjoy it these days for all the vigilance one must have.

How about the guy at 2:05...comes to an intersection and just crumbles off the bike.

I grew up on my dad's Kawi Z1. At a certain point, I stopped riding in Los Angeles. Not worth it anymore.

I am looking forward to getting my R90/6 streetable. Lots of great roads here.

I lived in Gresham for two years...I agree about the great roads up there.
Ride safely...lots of tailgating around there.

A friend of mine just graduated with his BS in nursing (insert Gaylord Focker joke here). He was going to give himself a motorcycle as a graduation gift, until he got his first job working the ER and ICU at a hospital. He told me that at one point there were eight motorcycle accident victims there simultaneously, most involved in accidents that were not their fault. There are way too many morons out there, I don't know how you guys do it.

Though I suppose this video is proof that there are plenty of idiots on motorcycles as well.

Yep. Only a few innocent riders. Mostly organ donors that escaped again.

I was approaching a 4 way stop when a full dresser Harley coming from the other direction noticed the intersection was a 4 way stop. He nailed the rear brakes and dumped it and slid right through the intersection. Fortunately no traffic from the other direction ran over him. He slid right up to the door of my car. I just rolled down my window and asked if he was OK. He said he was fine, he just did not see the stop sign until the last minute. His new dresser was no longer pretty and new.

Of couse riding a motorcycle is more dangerous then a car. But, That video is not a great video for showing the dangers of riding a motorcycle. It's a video showing how riding dangerously can get you seriously hurt or killed.

I didn't watch the whole thing, but any experienced rider could identify the hazards, before they even happened. I ride in LA everyday, used to ride in downtown LA everyday. if you ride like those guys in the video, you won't be riding long.

Here's the problem with that stament, Just because it wasn't their fault, legally, doesn't mean it wasn't their fault.

For example, any experienced driver, let alone rider, knows you should never rush a fresh green light, yet I've been to more then a few accidents where the motorcycle rider was splitting lanes up to the front of the intersection, as he gets close to the front, the light turns green, so he guns it past the cars in front of him.....Problem is the car on the opposite side of the intersection, runs the left turn arrow and clobbers motorcycle in the middle of intersection. legally, since lane filtering is legal in California and he had a green light he's all good. but BFD, if your sitting in the ER.

It's not a popular opinion, but personally, unless something falls out of the sky and lands on top of the rider, It's always the riders fault if they go down. Having that belief has worked really well for me.

I agree with Michael and I love riding in L.A. You have to be a very defensive rider and always look for hazards, though. Asserting your "right" to right-of-way will get your pretty sheet metal crumpled in a car and your bones snapped on a bike.

I'm on my bike now, (actually at pit stop for coffee). I've written before of my neighborhood which is an ethnic enclave with many immigrants from a part of the world where people are not great drivers for some reason. I'm talking about people faking right like they are pulling into a parking space in front of you and then suddenly busting an illegal u-turn w/o looking, that sort of thing. I've gotten so used to it that I don't even get mad anymore but it's definitely made me a sharper rider/driver.

I rode Sunset to the beach and then out to Malibu on Sunday, lane-splitting my ass off the whole way. It was a blast. Shooting out through intersections w/o visually clearing them is suicidal, though. And riding on a highway w/o looking at signage like the Harley rider above is also.

MC riding is extremely dangerous if you are not a skilled, careful rider who understands traffic.

it may work well for you however you can be put in situations you have no chance of avoiding not even king kenny can dodge all these idiots. I suggest if you ride buy good gear and use it, there are 2 types of motorcyclist, those that have been down and those that are going to go down, I haven't been down in 25 yrs (knock on wood) but I have had some close ones that was just a matter of timing

FWIW, I did not watch the video. I know what's on it and I don't enjoy seeing people get hurt unless they just finished robbing someone.
