rear ended...again
Perfect start to a Monday. Driving to work, person in front of me stops at a marked crosswalk to let pedestrians cross. I come to a stop, look in the rearview mirror and say, "uh oh." Guy in a Passat slams into the back of my X1. I stood on the brake so I didn't roll into the car in front. Back and neck are tender, heading to see my doc. Car is drivable but has some new creaks and exhaust noises - looks like the exhaust was pushed down/back. Definintely need new bumper and all new plastic back there. Waiting for his insurance (State Farm) to talk to him before they send me to a shop for estimate. I went through this a year ago - same scenario, different car, same insurance company.
The week can only get better... |

Sorry to hear about it Todd, glad you are ok. They have insurance, so that's a good thing in this town. The young lady who destroy my Land Cruiser had no insurance, such as life in this big city.

Retired, finally

Or as the idiot who did the same thing to me said: "My brakes didn't work". He had no insurance, either.

Sorry to hear that. I got rear ended last Tuesday and State Farm (the other party's insurance) has yet to get back to me even though I filed the claim that same day.
These people need self driving cars. |

I've already talked with the SF claims agent - he's just waiting for the driver to return his call. The driver had actually called right after it happened but got VM. The woman in front gave both of us her name/phone number if we needed a witness. Hopefully should go quickly. I see my doc this afternoon, then back to work for a dog and pony. Last time they paid for rental car and cut a check to me after they did the estimate. Just a pita to have to deal with it, and I likely will be tender for awhile. Which sucks because I've been doing PT in the pool for the past two months and have been feeling good. Way it goes...

I've never seen one of those Orange third brake lights that go over your license plate....cool...where does one get one?
You'd think the guy behind you would have noticed something like that....

Sorry for your troubles...with a brain your size I imagine the extra weight could be a liability in an accident
![]() I do have to ask, how do you like the X1 to date? Time for an update.

As that is a fairly new car I would give consideration to requesting compensation for the diminished value of the car. Any prospective purchaser is going to probably run a car fax and will be inclined to offer less due to the accident.
For a successful claim, you’ll need an appraisal of the car’s value both before the accident and after the repairs have been done.

Sorry to hear, ouch. Good underside inspection from a BMW certified shop. Wife had a "tap" in the XC90, she said, "it's just a scratch." didn't notice the rear doors no longer had a consistent gap. Dropped the rear of the car 1/2", $12k later it was repaired amazingly well. Have a picture of the chassis on the straightening jig, all glass out, rear empty. Pretty amazing ability to fix cars in a modern shop.
