Encryption Software
I need to obtain some encryption software for the new office computer. Credant is what the electronic medical records people recommended when we signed up. Now they say just get whatever. Does it make much difference what I use?

If it is database(s) you are talking about, Oracle has field level encryption that stays encrypted until it is displayed on the users screen. As for individual files I used to use Winzip (paid version) and would do the zip and encrypt at the end of the day. That way you get compression and encryption together.

I would use what they suggest.
That way if there is an issue you are not booted out of the support loop.

What are you trying to encrypt? Just files, the whole hard drive, etc...
I've heard that truecrypt is good, and it's free.

Isn't bit locker dependent on a flash / USB drive (or other external storage device likely to be USB based)? If so, read this:

One of my Fortune 500 defense contractor customers uses this (PGP) on the laptops we have to use for their projects. I don't know a ton about it but imagine it is pretty secure, given their requirements. They lock the entire drive with a multi-word passphrase.
