Snowden granted stay and a job in Russia. Free to roam and leave the country 3 months a year. Could apply to be a citizen in five years.

DHS contractor company who provides screening / gov. employment security is hacked.

Coincident?

Thinking about this. 1.2 billion accounts compromised. Assume Russian gang of 100 take just .35 cents a year from each breached and continue to do so for the following three years. Nobody is going to beef about it. But thats sure a good take split among the gang.

One more...

Funny thing is, large US corporations sub-contract IT and security measures to low cost OFF SHORE companies. You may not think so, but the IT security folks sitting at their desk in the US are daily working with their fellow vendors on security. Saves corporations big money.... LOL. I mean, c'mon now. You name it.... financial institutions, health, insurance companies. Are the people of the US that STOOOPID. Obviously these mega breaches WILL ALWAYS and HAVE been going on. Its just takes the US slowly to learn.

1 - BAN ALL OFF-SHORE NON-US COMPANIES FROM PROVIDING IT AND SECURITY SERVICES. Homeland Security... my azz.

This is incredibly flawed. The US school system does not foster brilliance. You want a global talent pool.

Security hacks happen because software is designed to give people access. It is a reactive game of hiring creative hackers to look for ways of gaining access in undesired ways and then figuring out how to close the loopholes. It is not as simple as your post makes it out.(you may be joking, I don't use green font for jokes *most of the time* either.)

From a security perspective, this is actually quite poignant. I work within the DoD's encryption realm, and we're buying more and more COTS items. There's a reason why we will NOT purchase ANYTHING that comes from certain countries, as China and Russia have both been known to add malware to some of their products that "report home" once the device is activated.

Shhh....the Outer Banks has ALREADY been ruined from what it was when I was a kid (much like a lot of CA I suppose)....I cringe when I see cars/trucks with OBX stickers on them . You'd be more than welcome Hugh...just don't tell everyone about 'em. BTW...I cackled out loud when I was watching the local news early this morning....heard something I'd never ever heard before:
