Wow, definitely a backhanded comment and the lady clearly lacks manners. Sorta like you saying: "Gee I didn't expect your butt would be so big." Bad form.

Winner winner chicken dinner!

Hindsight is 20-20 however "I didn't expect your butt to be so big" would have been a great comeback.

Business prospect. Sorry, I should've been more specific. Not wanting to do business with me because of my looks is indeed shallow. One thing I had not considered is that she may be racist.

Wait, seriously? I would not do business with her.

If nothing else, it speaks volumes about your confidence and communication skills. So that's a feather in your cap.

scottmandue 08-08-2014 07:09 AM

You obviously need to work on being taller!

Women crack me up... they go on and on about how men are only concerned about looks... and then stuff like this happens.

fintstone 08-08-2014 07:12 AM

Whether we like it or not, appearance goes a long way in the workplace. When I quit working so hard/long and spent more time working out and dressing better...my work (probably not quite as good as before) was much better received. It was really good to be in good shape again too.

:D

Haha,

I am in the service business and periodically a client will exhibit disrespect for me or one of my crew. I resist the comeback temptation and quietly raise the price. We call it the PITA surcharge. Common courtesy and good manners have monetary value in my book.

Just tell her you're a millionaire and have a very large penis.

I should really take my dieting more seriously and probably dye the sparse hair on my dome.

As others mentioned, the dying the hair part if complete fail. At 52 I am mostly gray, and see others at work who are the same age or a little older to magically don't have any gray. It isn't genetics though - the dye never lies.

Forget the diet - exercise every day. A couple months back I had three acute back episodes and my chiro said I needed to get into the pool and change my life otherwise I'd be on a surgeon's table in 6 months. I took her seriously and have been doing laps at the Y most every day. In the past 2.5 months I think I've missed 4 days and one of those was 4July when they were closed. While my hair is still gray, a lot of the curves on my body have moved. I weigh the same, but look and feel great. Wife is happy (plus she's been swimming with me - me happy). It has required a life change as I prioritize getting to the pool, but it is the perfect exercise and my results have been stellar. ymmv.

Nothing looks gheyer than an old dude who dyes his hair. It's like wearing a rug. But then I started going grey at 21, so I've had plenty of time to adjust. :)

I'd also advise against shaving your head unless you're one of those guys with a perfect noggin that looks good bald. Shaved head has sort of become the comb-over of the last 20 years, in most cases it's just throwing in the towel on your appearance. YMMV, depending on head shape.

Oh yeah, the best advice of all is to stop caring what women think of you. Fk 'em if they can't take a joke, as I always say. :)

Forget about doing business with her. Can't win them all.

Exercise daily. Portion control, not dieting.

Don't dye hair.

Don't shave head because my skull is shaped like a peanut.

Control the controllables.

Great advice everyone. Thank you.

bivenator 08-08-2014 12:23 PM

With that attitude you should be fine. Head like a peanut, lol.

This!

By saying what she said, she simply vetted herself as a potential client/partner.

Maybe you should have said something in reply but that can be difficult when something comes at you from left field.

For instance... Not that long ago I met a "lady" for coffee. She seemed nice enough but she was a smoker and had lovely dark brown teeth to match.
During coffee she actually asked me. "If you let your hair grow would you still be bald on top?" (I mostly sport a Zero)

I just sat there gob smacked. When I regained some composure I ended the meeting and left.

Just what does a peanut-shaped head look like? Better than a walnut or cashew I have to imagine.

fintstone 08-08-2014 12:45 PM

You should post pictures so we can critique you and make you feel like crap.

We're here for ya :D

One of my uncles (RIP) used to call me knot-head when I was a youngin'....
Who knew a young "knot" matured to be a "pecker" :p?

vash 08-08-2014 01:16 PM

if it makes you feel any better Chris,
you are exactly what i expected!!

cantdrv55 08-08-2014 01:47 PM

You guys are great. Thanks for the laughs.

mreid 08-08-2014 02:42 PM

I've found the, "oh, congratulations, when are you due?" Line works really well in these situations.
