You're not what I expected.

A prospect recently told me that. When I asked her what she was expecting, she kind of skirted the question and changed the subject. When I asked her again after a few minutes passed and our conversation reached a short lull, she said she thought I'd be younger and taller. I laughed it off but WTF? How was I supposed to take that? Anyway, it took me off guard and I didn't recover well. I don't think there's going to be a second meeting.

I know we've all had fantasies of pretty faces behind sexy voices but I experienced the disappointment from the other side. It sucked. Has that ever happened to you? I should really take my dieting more seriously and probably dye the sparse hair on my dome.

We need pictures of both of you. Did she do roofing work?

We had a re-organization once and the secretary of my new organization called (this was before email) to inform me of a meeting for our new group. Her voice was incredible. I pictured some stunning supermodel with a penchant for low-cut dresses. In reality, she ended up being hideous and incompetent.

Sounds like a shallow prospect. Suggest worrying less about image and more about substance.

I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it.

The upside is.....it will provide incentive for you to do what you said in your post...

There really is no downside that amounts to anything more than some hurt feelings - that can be converted (as I stated) into incentive.

Don't let it bug you, man. It's not that big a deal. Take stock in yourself and get your MOJO where you want it - you deserve it.

Ever hear the saying, "You can't tell a book by its cover"?

I had a boss that played a good amount of golf and so I did as well. He had a girlfriend and when I met her she asked me how I found time to play so much golf. My reply was, "I'm very good at what I do".

Back in the last millennium when I still lived with my parents I dated a chick with a sexy voice. My dad would answer the phone and tell me "Ole sexy voice is on the phone" She could read the phone book and arouse any straight man. Her appearance did not live up to her voice but I was not looking for a life partner. I was just a teenage boy with one thing on my mind.

Was this a dating prospect or a business prospect? I thought you were married.

Dieting, absolutely, your health is everything.

Hair? Shave that chit! Nothing worse than a guy trying to do something with nothing and it's "jet black"...

I'm 28 and balding like a banshee, the only reason I have hair is Mrs Saucy can't commit to Mr Bic:rolleyes:

Internet dating - A place where it is all topical, no core, no value, no virtue.
Things used to be the other way , Now it is all bling blam.
People want a relationship out of a 1000 email count.!
Not going to happen.
I learned, go to the phone ASAP and a date in next 3 to 5 days. other wise someone is there for all the wrong reasons.
simple

Early on in my on line dating experience I met someone in the lobby of a very crowded restaurant she had picked. She looked at me and said, you don't look like your pictures, which was the first and only time that happened. It was a bad start to a bad date but there was no easy way out. We shook hands in the parking lot after an ok dinner. I emailed thanks. She wanted to get back together??? No thanks.

I learned from that experience to plan first dates for afternoon coffee or early evening drinks. Easy things to cut off or make into quick, "gotta go somewhere" exits. If things go well, you can always extend. I've had some nice half a day coffee dates. Embrace the bald look and get fit. Women either love the look or don't. Don't waste time on those that want someone with a full head of hair but bald and a beer gut is bad for you and bad for your love life.

You're a nice guy for still getting dinner with her.

If I went on a date that started that way... You too, must not be the person I was looking for, and walk away :)

If that was an employee prospect: not so smart.

Never a good strategy to drop a backhanded comment.

This?

I am married now but did the internet dating thing... had a great date but ended with "you are the nicest guy I have met in a long time but I'm not comfortable with your age."

I was all WTF I had current pictures of myself posted and my age was clearly stated in my profile?

Anywho... people are weird (I should know) no point is worrying about the random persons opinion.

Business prospect. Sorry, I should've been more specific. Not wanting to do business with me because of my looks is indeed shallow. One thing I had not considered is that she may be racist.

I hate it when my racist tendencies ruin a business deal

Cajundaddy 08-08-2014 06:53 AM

Wow, definitely a backhanded comment and the lady clearly lacks manners. Sorta like you saying: "Gee I didn't expect your butt would be so big." Bad form. Still a point of inner reflection though. These days, physical fitness equals attractive and it really is a personal choice.

pavulon 08-08-2014 07:00 AM

expectations = disappointments on the hoof.

fintstone 08-08-2014 07:00 AM

I was hired by a phone interview by a female boss and a female peer (I never met either before, but both younger than me and rather attractive). Later, when the topic of them selecting me came up, I said "admit it, you just hired me for my looks"...and they hesitated, then seemed to agree, paused thoughtfully and then laughed and said; "but it was a phone interview".
