Muscle Car barn find.
Not for me this car, but my friend and co-worker loves these 69, 70 Trans Am Pontiacs and the Trans Am racing series and any and all "Bandit" cars. This one
is quite special as it's got all the numbers and such for a true Bandit car, not just the stripes. (Little nuances only the Trans Am guys care about) For example, smaller T-top openings and gold trim inside and outside and a host of other stuff. Not collectable to me but he is very happy with this car. Anyone have Burt's home number? I'd like to call him about this one. See if he drove it. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

FYI - That is a 77 or 78 not 69 or 70. 69 or 70 would have had round head lights.

Yes '77, I meant to say 69, 70 Trans Am Series racecars. I don't know much about these later notch rear window cars. 69, 70 were my favorites.

Those. 70's car had all those crazy emission rules. I don't remember them being so hotroddy.

I worked at the dealer when those were new, I was in HS in late '70s. Liked them alright at the time but lookin at them now they are unbelievably poorly built. Just garbage.

I am looking for a 76 or earlier big block Trans Am. I hated these cars growing up, most of my buddies had them. I want one now as an investment.
The trouble is that most have been ridden hard and put away wet, really wet.

I'd like one of these with a manual transmissin and I'd drop 455 Olds I'd build up really nice ... but they have long left play territory and are demanding serious coin. At least for the heaps they are!
I like the concept of T tops. One day I'll have a car with them ... G |

Notice to would be hotrodders.
If you live in a state that requires smog checks they can (& will) fail you on a visual inspection. Stick with pre 75 cars and avoid hassles.....but you may get lucky.

I used to work with a guy that bought a new T/A in 76. Watched it on the highway in his vending truck as it went to the Flint dealership. Funny art is that he was so cheap he would pay the $44(I think) for the screaming chicken hood decal. HE drove for a couple of years with the 400 PONTIAC and then swapped that for a 462 Oldsmobile built by a local drag racer. It had an experimental aluminum intake and exhaust manifolds.
It's been few years since I saw him but he still had it at that time. We put a Flowmaster exhaust system on it at one point. Last time I talked to him it had about 40000 miles on the car. The original engine was in his shed with about 10000 miles if I remember correctly. It was like a time warp back to 76/77. He still had the 8 track unit he had installed right after delivery. I always told he should talk to a Pontiac magazine to do an article on it but he never did.
