spoons in motorhomes ???

Just picked up a new(to me) class a motorhome. I'll be doing a lot of cross country travel with it..
So what's the law on having a night stand spoon in it ? Is it a vehicle or my home ? Obviously I don't have a permit in all 50 states..

I cannot believe you would not need to follow local laws for wherever the vehicle is located.

Its a vehicle.

Honestly though, how would you ever get caught? Probably a good idea to keep it in a safe when you're moving anyway. Get a small portable safe. Takes 5 seconds to put it in there, protects it from roaming kids, and if it ever gets stolen and used in a crime, you've got some liability coverage.

I've got the Stack On safe. $25.

Most state treat RVs as your domicile while parked. Then again, IANAL, and you should check each state's laws. The locking container will satisfy most regulations as a safe, secure storage.

I didn't read the whole thing, but this site seems to have information you might find useful. It's only a start, though. I'd suggest researching each state you intend to travel in, and even print out the applicable statutes and keep them with you (unrelated example: Colorado law allows you to drive a vehicle you purchased without a license plate if you purchase it after 4pm or on a weekend and you are driving it home from the purchase - I print out a copy of the law and bring it with me in case I get stopped by a cop who doesn't know that. They can't possibly remember EVERY law on the books....)

You may have to make the choice to not visit certain states, or to leave the gun at home. Just be sure you make either decision based on actual laws, not guesses, as the ramifications either way could be serious.

In CA you can have one at your campsite, unless prohibited by some specific law. I don't think you can have one at Laguna Seca, because its part of a military base, I could be wrong. Also, CA law allows you to carry unloaded concealed without a permit to and from and during a hunting or fishing trip. Get a fishing license and some tackle for the RV. "To and From" isn't defined, it could be the day before, or the day after for example.

Can't help with the spoon question, but do tell us about the motorhome!

My new to me home away from home.

It's an Airstream 345. 1989 built on a Chevy truck chassis with a 454 big block.

What did you find?

My brother built a gun safe into his RV trailer . Nice and secure, not good for easy or quick access tho.

Cheers Richard

WHEW Nice looking rig there 9dreizig, diesel pusher, nice storage basement, cool swept back forehead styling. Looks a bit Euro. SWEEET!! Bet its comfy inside with the slide outs. On the curb side too?

How is it to drive? Are you towing with it? I'm thinking of rigging up the S C for towing behind mine.

Cheers Richard

Concealed Carry Permit Reciprocity Maps - USA Carry

A lot of states recognize Utah carry permit. They even have classes here in Ct or a Utah permit.

If I'm taking a gun on a long vacation I email some distant gun club and ask if I can come around for a shoot. I print up their reply just in case there is a problem.

Stay out of NY and NJ. The North East is generally not spoon friendly.

Yes it drives like a dream! Rated at 10,000 lbs towing and I'll be towing my 24 ft enclosed to the track.
Also plan on pulling my Saturn vue when I take it on business ( now cheaper than a hotel when I'm gone for 2days or more)
Thanks Mark ill buy you a drink in it when I drive it east next summer

Whether you consider your RV a home or a vehicle, gun transportation laws still apply. And these laws vary from state to state.

Here are two links that should help you understand the different rules and regulations:

NRA-ILA | Guide To The Interstate Transportation

TruckVault - Gun Transport Laws by State

Be espeically careful in more restrictive states. In NJ, breaking most gun laws can land you in jail, and many of those violations come with a 3 year manditory sentence.

As mentioned above, it wouldn't hurt to have a destination to go to (shooting range) in writing. Also doesn't hurt to call the local municipality and seek clarification (although they don't always know the gun laws well).

Also - if you have a CCW, that is a huge help, since then you are covered under the FOPA laws regarding gun transport. This gives you a bit more protection should you get into a situation where a local municipality does not understand their own state's gun laws.

Be careful.

You have to abide by each States laws. Tri State NY, NJ, Ct. are very tough. I live in NY and border NJ. I must make sure I don't have it with me if I cross over for the cheaper gas. I can't drive through NYC with a NYS permit. No hollow points in NJ. Long list of weapons that are illegal here, CT is even worse. I intend to moving south soon.
