Picked up a 914 today
I've been casually looking for a 914 for a little while. Picked up this 73 today with a 2.0 transplant much earlier in it's life. The paint is on the rough side but with a little TLC will be a driver which is what I wanted. Has been driven very little in the last several years but runs really well. Shifts great, needs brake work. Almost zero rust. We went through it very carefully on a lift today. A bit of rust in the right dogleg and a few other knicks but very solid. No signs of any accident damage. Second owner since the 70's. Interior is in good shape for it's age. Fuel injection intact. Dan Gurney wheels. Fun! I'm instructing at a PCA DE day in 3 weeks, time to get some work done.

If it hasnt already been done, replace the master cylinder with a 19mm one out of a 911 of the same era. Bolt in and a good upgrade.
Looks nice. Keep in mind that the first thing to do when sorting out running problems is to adjust the valves correctly. Also replace ALL the vacuum and fuel lines if it hasnt already been done.

Nice find Jerry, rust free 914s with original FI are rare and great little cars. I started off with an Olympic Blue 73 a long long time ago. I would go through the FI carefully and refresh anything suspect. Post some more pics when you can.

Nice! Had a '73 for a while but sold before I left CA. Wouldn't mind getting another at some point. Enjoy - they're fun!

Congrats, Jerry - and thanks for sharing. Please do share more pics when time allows.
The factory F.I. 2.0 is what I have as well and LOVE how peppy that setup is. You're going to have a lot of fun with that car! Great advice from NC and Shaun, BTW. Good luck and have fun!

Nice car, congrats! I had a green 74 2.0 while I was in college. I loved that car during the summers. Winters, not so much (college was in Michigan) Enjoy!

Very Nice, I have always wanted one. I have this one sitting on my rack right now waiting for some parts from our host.
It is for sale, and I am tempted....

Buy it Fred, you deserve it, and have plenty of room. It is cheap, and those are cool wheels. I don't know about the plastic rocker covers though.
Jerry, O rings on the injectors turned out to be the answer to running issues on my old L jet bug, I know that is a D-jet, just sayin' Yellow is a great color on a 914

Nice ride! I always liked/wanted a 914, think I even PM'ed P-O-P when he was selling his... but as too often happens my dreams exceeded my checking account.

I spent some time cleaning this morning. The paint is pretty rough but looks ok from 10 feet. Good enough for now. The color is actually Ravenna Green. Looks like from the engine compartment and a receipt I have it had a full service in 2007 including many if not all new fuel lines. Almost no miles since. Will still go through everything closely. First order of business is new tires and brakes. It seems to run real well. Sitting high in the second pic as I had it jacked up to remove the rear wheel to see what I could do to it with some polish. It's much cleaner but these wheels need a lot more than polish! I need to source some rebuilt calipers. Any good suppliers out there? There is a great guy in Seattle called Goldline brakes. I'll call him Monday.

For brakes, there's no one better than PMB.

Are the A pillars painted or is that vinyl? As far as I know, the vinyl only came in early '73
