Just checking. We have family next door in Sonoma. No word from them yet.

Purdy good shaking just a click west of the San Andreas and ~45 miles due west from the epicenter, however no damage on the coast although Napa seemingly has gotten hammered.
The shaking lasted ~15 seconds and it was good that it occurred during the early AM hours of a weekend. Looking for the aftershocks to come...

Over on the Sonoma side all seems well. The winery is unscathed (I have nightmares about our five-high barrel stacks in the cellar) and it didn't feel that bad in Petaluma - though it did wake us up. Napa is pretty shaken up.

Woke me up. Cat and dog snored thru it so much for my fantasy of my pets saving me by warning me early.

Prayers to the people of Napa and all affected by the quake. From the pictures it reminds me of Fillmore after the Northridge quake, small quaint town of old homes and brick buildings, Population 12,000 and $250 million in damage. Really sucks, been there done that.

It woke me up (about 50 miles to the south). It lasted a long time but wasn't all that strong at my house, so I surmised it was a fairly good size but far away. Then I went back to sleep.

Some parts of Napa, particularly the wine storage areas in the southern portion near the epicenter did not fare well. This is an image shared around on twitter:
![]() While it is not Ebola or the loss of homes by fire/structural damage, this represents the craft, livelihood, and passion of both small business owners and larger wineries. In the same way as many might react to the trailer of 356's damaged in a traffic accident, these barrels of wine represent a particular moment in time that will never, ever, happen again.

My office insures a very large amount of Napa wine specifically for EQ. Tomorrow will be interesting.

Just got power back on about 25 minutes ago.
We live about 3-4 miles from the epicenter and about three miles from Downtown Napa. This was BY FAR the strongest, most terrifying earthquake I have ever felt. I was pretty convinced that the house would be collapsing and I may die... I'm really wound up and I don't expect to sleep well for quite some time. I had heard on the radio ( my only contact with the media ) that there is a 50% chance of a same or greater aftershock in the next few days. I've already felt many small ones, but the best one was right after coming back inside from my truck in the driveway after we thought it was safe enough to return to bed. As soon as I was just about asleep around 4:30, comes a very BIG jolting hit and completely terrified me once again. Happy to be here.

Good to hear you are (reasonably) OK.
Pretty scary, that "what comes next feeling" as the house sways around. |
