'Apparently Ferrari was not too pleased with the custom badges and associated floor mats on Deadmau5′s 458 Italia Ferrari aka The Purrari. In fact, Ferrari North America even sent a cease and desist to have the custom emblems removed from Deadmau5′ Purarri.

Depends on who owns the car. If its a lease or some specially arranged loaner for promo purposes they can demand he follow the agreements signed. If he bought it out-right then they can't say "boo" but they sure can make it hard for him to get another car.

PS- the custom badges (copyright) are just the highest, best excuse for Ferrari to use. they didn't agree with that ghey makeover / vandalism of their poor car, but declined to list that as a reason. Poor taste isn't a crime- copyright infringement is...

If you blow the pictures up, it looks like he had custom emblems made of the prancing horse, but replacing the horse with a cat in the same positioning. That is likely the basis of their complaint. I'm not saying it's a winning case, but it's legit enough that their attorney isn't going to get rule 11'd over it.

In the very early days of Ferrari it wasn't unusual to buy the car directly from the factory after having met with Mr. Ferrari himself. It wasn't uncommon for Enzo to say: "No, I do not feel you are the right person to be driving my cars..". There wasn't exactly a dealer in the next town where you could pick one up yourself.

I've seen this coming for quite a while. Corporations have become obsessed with their image. Witness Porsche's obsession over controlling any and all uses of its name and image, and the ever expanding legions of corporate lawyers dedicated to protecting that image. In the not too distant future I (or you!) might get a letter from the company saying I don't use, maintain, or present my Porsche in the appropriate manner, thus causing harm to their corporate brand. Do as they say, or they will expect their car returned. They may have sold you the hardware, but they retained ownership of the "image". Someday soon they will argue that gives them a controlling interest in that hardware. Its a strange world, and getting stranger by the day.
