Never been much of a Shania fan, one way or t'other.

Dig the Welch. Saw her with Dave Rawlins and fantastic. Best natural voice and she can play and she can write.

Well, not all men - but this is hilarious - from last night's Daily Show. Jessica Williams' (come on -fat, not fat, hitable - you know -oink around boys) takes on the 'clap as the woman walks by' solution (this was a follow-up to Fox News' Arthur Aida where he indicated that clapping as a woman walks by is an acceptable form of 'appreciation')... her comments are fine, really fine....

If you want to watch the previous segment to Jessica's rebuttal - it is here (and includes an entire repertoire of really poor male behavior, at the US Senate level).

Ms Paws, just I will have to go digging for this, I get the message

"Sorry but this video is unavailable from your location

In case you can't give up your free healthcare and move to America, you can watch the Daily Show with Jon Stewart at the comedynetwork.ca"

rather humourous.....

But thanks for the sentiment and I'd probably not offer a clap in your direction......well, er, I would but ....well, you know....

...ah forget it. I've always been lousy around women anyway.....

You might have an opinion of her musical ability, which might even carry some weight if you had some training in that area, but the rest of her life is irrelevant to you. Celebrities don't "deserve" the unwanted attention and criticism they receive.

Thinking otherwise isn't very smart. It doesn't say much about you that I'd be proud of...

That is all very PC, but Twain doesn't perform for free or in a burlap sack; she seems to be using her looks and shape for something.

I swear to everyone here that if given even the slightest chance of hitting that (just passing the borderline of being a stalker) I would:

1) Crash diet for 10 days
2) No alky-haul
3) No sex of anykind
4) Obtain vitamin E shot

-----Then------

5) Buy a hard hat with integral LED light
6) Pack nothing but pure protein and carbs (in big lunch box like Herman Munster)
7) Throw out the condoms
8) Mentally prepare for the 'workout'

------In the Moment-----

10) Work every inch of that body until there was nothing left to be explored
11) Repeat
12) Repeat
13) See #12

She's not a stripper... that would be using her looks. Would you be happier if she stood stone-still on the stage and performed in a burqa? How about if she got fat and a wee bit ugly, like Grace Slick. Would that give her more credibility. Would it make the crowds happier?

You know, maybe she could exhibit the same fine stage persona that Bob Dylan gives off. I hear people really dig his shows and how happy he seems to be when he performs. What a guy...

I am not at all PC, but I'm not sexist either. This thread has gone way downhill. It's sad, really, that this is the best we can do as a group.

Java dog, much respect.

The comments don't necessarily bother me. In fact, most of the time, it makes more of a statement about the person saying it than the person they are directing it at.

And I like Foxpaws statement, we don't see all of you in pictures with a sequined leotard. ;) But then again, do we really want that Foxpaws? Be careful what you wish for... :)

This is a forum not a court room.

This lady looks like a clown now. A CLOWN. Is that mean spirited or fact?

Dave, Rick and Mary. I find Mary very sexy in a Southern Culture kind of way...and she's not bashful about her Fried Chicken - in fact, that's a great big bag of it right by the drum kit!!!

Agreed.

Opinion.

vash 09-03-2014 06:29 PM

i hated country music..started listening to it for one reason..shania twain. that woman was like bacon to a vegetarian..a nice transition in. :)

cant remember the superbowl halftime she performed at, but the commentary guys were brutal. ST cant dance, didnt dance..whatever. she just walked around on stage rather plainly. one commentary guy said, "wow, shania twain got more yardage on the field than the (dallas cowboys?).." something like that.

i laughed my ass off. the woman changed country music..changed it so much that tim mccraw's wife, Faith, became irrelevant really quickly.

and finally, she is a hot woman..she probably should have chosen a better outfit..like i wouldnt wear a speedo..EVER. i know my fashion limits..i know them WELL.

great thread. funny.

No woman is worth that much effort.

jyl 09-03-2014 09:21 PM

That's funny. So performing in a skintight leotard isn't using your body as part of the performance?

So here is Miley Cyrus performing in a skin tight outfit.

http://style.mtv.com//wp-content/upl...e-bodysuit.jpg

Why is she wearing this outfit, instead of a mid length dress or jeans or something? Call me an ogre, but I think it might be because we are supposed to be wowed by her body and therefore pay her money for her performance. Her body is part of the performance. So, expect her body to be scrutinized and judged, just like her singing voice, dance moves, songs, backup band, etc are scrutinized and judged. She expects it, she intends it.

Shania is doing the same thing as Miley. With just a little less skin, 30 more years, and a larger size.

If she wore mom jeans or a burqa or an elegant dress, and wasn't jiggling around the stage in a catsuit, then she'd be making her body not part of the performance. That performance should be judged on the singing and material. She did not choose to give that sort of performance. Presumably she believes that her body is an asset. Correctly, it seems.

javadog 09-04-2014 03:17 AM

John,

If you think a woman deserves criticism about her appearance because of how she dresses, or what body type she has, or what she does for a living... well, let's just say I wish you luck in your relationships with women. I think you'll be hard pressed to find one that agrees with you. Most will probably want to whack you upside the head, if they get wind of that attitude.

The rest of you that think she's a 130 pound fattie ought to probably spend a little time looking at her other recent photos. There are plenty of them out there. She's in great shape and I don't have to qualify that statement with her age.

By the way, that Natalie Stovall has some talent. One to watch for the future...

Again, the question for me is "what woman"? A professional entertainer who is selling her outfit and body shape as part of what she does for a living - well, the only "relationship" I would have with her is to pay her money. A woman IRL (in real life) is a different story - my relationships with IRL women are just fine.

Kind of like cooking. Someone who invites you to their house and cooks you dinner - the only acceptable response is appreciation and praise, regardless if the chicken is dry, the sauce burned, and the pasta waterlogged. A professional chef who charges you real money for dinner - well, he better have a thick skin, because by selling the product he's opening himself up to criticism, and the more he charges the more stringent the criticism will be.

Shania Twain, having pulled in $1BN or more by selling her looks (and her singing), is hardly in a position to wave the PC card.

And more class.

Although I do like that "Came in like a racquet ball" song.
