Two less Porsches

As of this year, before this week, I had three Porsches, and my brother had a 997TT Cabriolet, a grand total of four Porsches in the family. However earlier this week, my wife and I let go of the Cayenne GTS. I used to convince her to keep it, but because the tires wore down too quickly, we ended up going through three sets of tires, which cost me a total of $6,000, and we were just short of owning the Cayenne for two years. Say anything you want about us getting rid of the Cayenne, but I wasn't going to spend anymore money on tires in the future, so I figured it was time to move on.

In an earlier thread, I wrote that I was interested in trading the Cayenne GTS for a Cayenne Turbo S, but since we haven't had such a good experience with the GTS, we decided to look for another car. At the time, my wife's birthday was coming up, so I let her choose whatever she wanted. Her first choice was a 2015 BMW X5 xDrive50i with the M Sport package. We both liked it after a test drive, but later decided not to trade the Cayenne for it after seeing how high the price was, considering the low trade-in value of the Cayenne. Finally a few days ago, we got a car that we don't need to be as careful with; a 2014 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon, brand new with only 11 miles on it at the time. With the Jeep, we don't need to worry about getting the wheels scratched up on a curb (which happened with the Cayenne) because of the tall tires, and since it's designed for off-roading, we can...well, go off-roading in it I'm aware the Cayenne has off-road capabilities as well, but to me, it's just not a car you'd want to take off-roading.

At the time, my brother was also looking to get rid of his 997TT Cabriolet because he was facing a similar problem we had with the Cayenne; he was annoyed by the noisy brakes. He once took it to a Porsche dealer to have the brakes checked, where he was told that it's actually normal. My wife and brother just think it's embarrassing to have noisy brakes on such a high-end car, whereas properly-maintained "lesser" cars have quieter brakes. Are the brakes supposed to be noisy because of the added stopping power? Anyway, my brother traded his 997TT off as well, but for something that might be just as awesome; a 2010 Nissan GT-R. Before I didn't really find the GT-R to be appealing, but since I got to drive it, it's actually pretty nice Unfortunately though, the GT-R is only available with a dual-clutch gearbox, which I'm not particularly a fan of. Also, the car itself is all computer-controlled, so driving it isn't really a challenge compared to the 997TT. The GT-R has launch control as well, but I've heard that using it voids the warranty and sometimes leads to a destroyed gearbox, so I might have to encourage my brother not to use it.

So here I am, down to only two Porsches, but at least we have the GT-R to fill in the other supercar spot in the family after the departure of my brother's 997TT I'll probably post some photos of our two new cars later on.

Hmmm GT-R , I would be interested to hear what your bro thinks in 6 months time. These Nissans are VERY capable but IMO lack a bit of soul?? (or something like that!)

Regarding the computer controlled feeling, I thought there was a row of switches on the dash to turn on/off various controlling software.

PS: Early GT-Rs (late 1980s) have had a huge jump in price in Australia, like early 911s. My friend is thinking of changing his 911 rally/targa car for a GT-R because they are so darned tough.

Well, I did do alignment after the Cayenne sustained minor damage when it slid into a curb on an icy road, but I don't know if that's a good enough response.

The brake pads on the other hand were fine.
