Apple Watch

I don't wear a watch. I own several in the sub-$500 price range, but stopped wearing/caring about them probably 10 years ago. I have no desire to buy an expensive, clunky, $10K watch.

That being said, I'll be buying an Apple Watch with a leather strap. I'm very interested in my health and fitness, but don't do enough about them. Maybe an Apple Watch will help me with that. I'd also like to know the time without fishing for my iPhone 6.

I also would like to make payments with the watch. That sounds very cool. Vending machines? Metros? Oh yes...

I bought a Pebble a couple months ago, but returned it the next day. It was way too low tech.

At first glance, the Apple Watch doesn't look like much, but like everything Apple, the details are where its at. Apple is pretty smart about future tech, and I trust that they know where these things are heading.

Review from a watch guy:

A Watch Guy's Thoughts On The Apple Watch After Seeing It In The Metal (Tons Of Live Photos)

Very cool. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it.

watch Dunno about it, maybe....need to see it in person. I like the technology, just haven't worn a watch in a long time. Its funny, I quit wearing a watch because I didn't need anymore just to tell time, I had my phone for that. Now, I dunno.

One more thing...,,,

I want one two, but if you a droid user I think the Gear S looks much better than Apple's product, but specs are not out yet so time will tell...

I will buy one if the battery life is tolerable - needn't be all that I'd wish. The rest of the functionality looks good, useful, and intriguing. The looks are growing on me and with a Heuer "Monaco" face, I'd be pleased to wear it on my wrist.

watch ...."There's even a two-way, walkie-talkie feature. Yes, the Apple watch has a built in speaker and microphone. You can also use the mic and speaker for interactions with Siri.".....

There are so many dimensions to the product. I'm very, very curious.

The watch is very cool to me in terms of the multitude of things they brought together. From rethinking the watch bands to how they use the crown. Pressure sensitive screen – really clever. The taptic engine I also like – the sensors are good for the fitness functions, but so clever to share a heartbeat. This is an innate personal connection delivered through technology. They way they interweave the device into your life is an approach that is very unique for a tech firm. It’s not speeds and feeds, it’s functionality -> expressed as desire. From the opening very cool video to the end, you want one. Then as you digest the limitations, size, etc. and try to be clinical about why it’s no big deal, somewhere inside you want one. That’s the magic that Samsung or Microsoft will never get.

I showed my wife the intro videos last night. She has zero (okay, negative) tech interest. She said, "Wow, that's neat. I think I want one."

If you are a Droid user, you can't use the Apple Watch, and if you are an iPhone user, you can't use the Gear.

That makes the smartwatch battle far more important than just which smartwatch sells better.

Zero interest at this point. If anything I want less digital intrusion in my life. My exercise routine is very analog and I don't want or need tracking and metrics. As for a watch, I recently bought a Hamilton auto wind that I rarely wear. But I appreciate the design and analog mechanical aspects. The apple watch - just another screen.

That said it will be interesting to see how some of the interpersonal comms stuff plays out.

Maybe I'll changed mind after I see one in action.

I'm seriously considering trying to move back to a flip phone. I'm sick of carrying a marginally functional, 5" screened boat anchor around.

Tracfone.

About $100, maybe $120 a year for a phone and , what, 1200, 1500 minutes talk time? And it's a burn phone, if things get dicey, just toss it in the nearest garbage can.

No, but really, $100 will get anyone a flip phone with MONTHS of standby time and a year of service. My old Tracphone would still be 50-70% bars after 3 months turned off in the glovebox.
