The iPhone 6 Plus does not have a sapphire screen. It's not even clear if future iPhones will ever have sapphire screens.

I'm guessing like most things market pressure to be better than the competition will force it to happen. If Apple doesn't lead, they'll be forced to follow and I doubt they want that.

Sapphire is not necessarily the best option for a smart phone screen, even if it can be made economically enough.

Why Apple Didn't Use Sapphire for the iPhone Screens

Apple will no longer unlock most iPhones, iPads for police, even with search warrants - The Washington Post

Interesting.

If the police state is a concern you'll want iOS 8.

I wonder what "most" phones means?

Any phone/ipad running iOS8.

Over time as people upgrade "most" will turn into pretty much all.

stealthn 09-18-2014 07:04 PM

I running 8 now (typing on it), no major updates as this is an older iPad, but a few nice features. I a have at least one of everything as I do Enterprise Mobility Integration and I have to say I like Windows Phone 8 over Android, and Apple at the top. I like best of breed over ecosystems but I do love my MacBook Air. I find over the longer term Apple hardware and software sucks a little less than all the alternatives.

However I do not have a Surface Pro 3 (Yet) but I do have a Dell Venue 8 that I almost never use because I detest Windows 8 unless on a phone.

Yep. Every smart phone that I've owned has been an HTC (on purpose). They tend to work very well and have a lot less bloatware installed. With my G1 and G2, I don't think there was any. With my One S, I think I had a few apps installed, but the regular Android launcher. I'm hoping to stick to either HTC phones or possible straight Google phones like the Nexus series. I think the google phones have no bloatware (which is why my first two had none).

It will work on 4s phones and newer, and it believe on all iPads except first gen.

But in that case, don't back your phone up - not on your Mac/PC or on iCloud.

Well, maybe you can back up on your Mac/PC and encrypt the drive or something.

I was told to cross backup between your iOS8 devices, since they probably share most of the info anyway

I don't put anything that I want private in the cloud.

I have some cloud accounts for sharing large files with technically inept clients but do not use iCloud or any other online service for my personal stuff.

I have roughly 15 TB's of local storage on RAID 5 servers in my home.

Space is not an issue for me.

3. It is a free album for crying out loud! I've never heard so many folks complain about getting something for free. And if you don't want it - just don't download it. In Apple iTunes store, and in Google Play - there's a bunch of free stuff available to the masses - but folks don't complain about that...
4. Shamelessly taken from the random pics thread (originally posted by Kang): apparently, this isn't the first time a U2 album was offered for free with a media device:

4. actually it is, 5 minutes of looking show that ad is a fake:

snopes.com: Free U2 Tape with Every Cassette Player

free album? I agree it wasn't automatically download but it was placed in the Itunes library without consent. Sure 1 album might be ok, what about 10? 50? Sound like fun to log into your library and have to remove all the "free" crap Apple has decided to put there for you?

Guess no one should complain about junk mail either...come on, its a free book of checks for crying out loud!!!;)

Competition is a good thing.

Bloatware might be annoying but its so easy to get rid of, I'll take that any day over a phone that costs twice as much, takes 4x longer to fix issues and 10x longer to add features that have been around on other platforms for years.

I will give it to Apple, it takes very special marketing to get people to stand in line year after year and pay crazy $$$ to "upgrade" their phone

Wife has an Iphone 5. Battery is a joke and it feels cheap... she was a hardcore Apple believer but they seem to be going for cheaper build, higher price... to satisfy the stock holder demands of ever increasing margins as a sign of company health. What a joke.

OTOH, I have a Motorola Razr MAXX HD of the same vintage that lasts twice as long as her Iphone 5 on a charge. Literally. It's a BYOD personal phone with secure lock and encryption for work. Better hand feel with carbon fiber back, larger display and no proprietary cables or adapters to mess with.

There are pretty significant differences when you drill down. Not saying one is globally better but there is a better fit for working professionals when examining certain criteria.

I'm sort of interested in the Droid Maxx too. How's the build quality? My big hangup is still how to covert my iTunes songs. Cannot live without them for a day.
