New Charger Vs '63 Beetle?

I'm at the Western Washington State Fair in Yakima WA - yes, be still beating hearts! - and I have donated to various schools by purchasing raffle tickets.

Including tickets for raffles of cars.

I have the chance to win a Dodge Charger that looks new or newish (not sure, spent just 1 second checking it out) or, in a different raffle, a midnight blue '63 VW Beetle that looks like a shined-up daily driver (I actually looked at it before donating).

Which would you rather win? Why?

Go for the bug. The think the Charger will always be depreciating, and not have much future collector interest. The beetle will always be appealing, and likely won't lose value. It is inherently more cool than that Charger could ever hope to be... It's got soul and personality. The Dodge? Not so much, not ever!

Hmm, 1 - I'd prefer the beetle. Something that I would like to have, but probably wouldn't actually buy myself. If I won the Dodge, I'd probably sell it or take a cash option.

2 - which is going to cost more in taxes if you win it. When you win a car, you've usually got to pay the sales tax on it, and you may also have to pay income tax, I believe.

Beetle. It's the real deal. The "Charger" really isn't, and is trying to invoke, rather than create, something we all long for. Of course I still own an old Beetle ('70 with a later 1600 dual port), so I may be a little biased. Then again, I once owned a '66 Charger 383 four speed and, later, a '68 set up with a later 440 Six Pack (four speed as well), so I may be a little biased there, too.

Dodge charger all day long, You can sell it or donate back to charity and still be ahead. You can't vote on emotions,BTW I would never own a post 72 Dodge. Now if the bug was a 57 or 67 it would be a different story.

Charger, and flip it IMMEDIATELY. LIke, the next day.

Mopar holds it's value about as well as garden produce does.

I'd rather have the bug

But if I needed a car for moving my kids around, etc. then the charger - take it, flip it, and buy something I actually want/can use.

Hmmmmmm....Western WA State Fair has always been in Puyallup (Western Washington)??????

I priced a '63 Bettle Conv. last year with only 40,000 miles.....Really looks like brand new.....Priced at $15K then seemed what was fair.....

Charger..... Would be nice to have a comfy cruiser. I have owned a 65 beetle and while cool it had zero creature comforts and always felt a little unsafe. Plus my size 14s always got tied up in that dam crowded pedal cluster.

If I could enjoy the car and had room to store it so the weather wouldn't destroy it, I'd take the Beetle for sure. Either one would be an easy flip for money.

The dodge would make an excellent guilt free track car.

maybe it's Easier to just say Yakima than to figure out how to spell Puyallup - hey, they're both NW indian names, so, kind of close.

Is the Charger a Hellcat? It might be nice to cruise with 707 hp beast underfoot.

Beetle for me too. Years ago I had a '65 with a sunroof. It was a joy to get into that thing, crank the sunroof open, & drive it to work. One of my all time favorites. It was stolen, & after that I bought a Porsche.

Sorry! I misspoke. It was the Central Washington State Fair. In Yakima at the Sundome and surroundings. My wife's family is there. I used to go to Yakima often but now don't get there as much. The fair is my annual trip to pet goats and eat frozen bananas and watch pig racing. My son was actually thrilled because Saturday's band was Kansas. Yes, Kansas has an enthusiastic 15 y/o hipster fan. He got his picture taken with them. I think they were stunned to see someone under 50 y/o.
