I rode to Lewiston, ID and meet these guys on Friday. They had 2 days ride left to get to Tacoma. Great group and wonderful bikes. My faith in humanity is shaken by the loss of 4 bikes and their support truck and trailer. Who would do such a thing?

Rex - Not sure. A lot of this going on, especially "Rental Trucks" from Motel lots in the area....One in Kent a few months ago had all the equipment from a Europe company leading 14 motorcycles on a tour.

I was in Lewiston Sat nite - last day of an 8 day MC trip...Sorry I missed you....

That sucks. I always worry about my truck getting jacked from a motel lot, were the bikes inside of the trailer so all they had to do was start the truck and drive away?

Not hard to steal that truck, I've owned the same one and there is no chip in the key. Dent-puller the the ignition switch, screwdriver and away you go. Bummer, hope they were properly insured.

I would think the market for those things would be exceedingly small. The circles in which they are appreciated are pretty tightly knit, and word spreads fast. I almost have to think it was either some punks who had no idea what was in the trailer, and it will soon be found abandoned (hopefully with nothing trashed), or they were professionals targeting these bikes and they will disappear so quickly and thoroughly that they will never resurface.

Let's hope it's the former.

This was either a "mistake" or someone wants them in their own personal museum.
The Banditos and types would only want for cash value.- Their out.
So ..it leaves the first two guesses.

Learned a while ago, always hide VIN # of tow vehicle and never leave it where you cannot see it.

Quick phone pick of VIN # and a key is made inside 15 minutes....... annnnnnnd awayyyyy the go, total package. I am guessing it has crossed the border (north) already.

This kind of activity got so common with sled "packages" in Canada the resorts and hotels went to locked corrals and sled paddocks with 24 hour guards, 7 - 10 years ago.

Effing thieves. These days it's almost worth it to pay a guy to sleep in the trailer with a shotgun when overnighting.

"These days"? Thieves are not some new phenomenon.

UPDATE: Pickup has been recovered. Trailer and bikes (plus spares) still missing. No surveillance video available from Hotel. Value of trailer and contents reported at $250K.

Trailer is somewhat unique with the side door and 2 windows. Thax for keeping your eyes open. I belong to a local Vintage mc club with over 600 members. Jeff Higgins can attest these are great guys.

I hope they're better guys than Jeff Higgins, FFS.

I also hope they had insurance. I can't imagine they did not.

Bob, thanks for the update. I have been checking in, hoping for some good news.

This is not the news I was hoping for. They dumped the truck. Guess that means the bikes were the target. So the thieves appreciate classic bikes. They probably know how much folks put into their bikes, and how valuable these old Harley's are worth, even as parts.

Just sucks that the owner are having to go thru this. I hate to imagine the sinking feeling this has caused them. It's about way more than the $$s lost. Bummer!
