new Lanborghini hybrid is hot

Wow, I think this is one of the best looking Lamborghinis in a while. Not that they are usually unattractive, but this one really strikes a chord for me. Maybe it's got hints of Miura in the back half, and that's why I like it so much. I'm a sucker for some of the 50s and 60s car styles.

Lamborghini's 910HP plug-in hybrid goes 30 miles on a charge (hands-on)

Quote:
It can run in three modes: the first two use either the rear-drive 610HP V10 gas engine or "eco-friendly" 300HP front-drive electric motor system. And if you really need those groceries now, both can join forces to bring an unholy 910 combined horsepower. For those times when you'll settle for 300HP on the battery alone, you can even drive it up to 30 miles if you charge it up using the plug-in mode.

...Unfortunately, it's strictly a (fully functioning) concept car that'll never reach the market, so don't sell off that Hurrican yet.
I hadn't actually read any of the articles until now. That last tidbit is disappointing.

That's a beautiful Lamborgini. It's a shame it won't be produced but maybe the styling will make it to a new model.

30 miles between charges. How long between battery fires?

There are some cool looking and high performing hybrid supercars, but I'm just not sure that hybrid tech really improves supercars. They could have just made a 900hp IC-only vehicle and saved lots and lots of weight and complexity. They would be better sportscars.

But, I'm sure the push towards this sort of thing will drive new tech that will trickle down to pedestrian hybrid cars, and that makes it worthwhile.

I think hybrid tech is pretty cool, better than pure electric. I haven't kept up with it, but I assume most require the IC for propulsion at times. It would be nice if they could get to the point that the IC was purely for power generation.

If I had silly money, would I buy a 918, maybe. But probably not until after I had a CGT. Who knows, I'd need to test drive both first, and I don't think anyone would let me behind the wheel of either.

Looks very conservative for a Lambo... Looks more like Ferrari lines.

I totally agree... not sure what is driving (pardon the pun) the production of hybrid flagship supercars but so be it... like you, if I was in a 'money is no object shopping for a supercar' situation (not happening in my lifetime) I most likely be looking at straight up IC cars (something with 12 cylinders please, Ok, maybe 10)... but have to say I saw an i8 on the freeway and it is stunning, pictures don't do it justice.

I agree and I think that's why I like this car. It does not seem so over the top in styling.

I don't like any of the modern super cars - Ferrari, Lambo, etc. All of them are a bit much with over-the-top styling. They've all lost those beautiful lines and curves.

But... the hybrid Lambo is a very, very good looking car, nicer than anything in a long time. Too bad they won't build it.

Not that I am their target market, but I don't find any of the hybrid supercars to be appealing. I want a fantastic driving experience, not to simply manage the operation of a dozen computers. All of the hybrid supercars are amazing technological achievements, but I don't want to drive a computer. Despite the fact that it's a faster and more efficient car, I've read several reviews that prefer the Carrera GT experience over the 918 due to the more direct connection to the driver.

Like the looks, but trash the absurd waste of hybrid tech. Jeezuz, how much HP does one need? Extra this and that. Nope.

Keep it simple, enter Alfa 4C
If its reliable, this is what I call a supercar

I like it! Kinda emits a Ferrari F550/565, Miura and GT40 vibe. With a little R8 mixed in.
