Is that some kind of letter they send to everyone that owns a car over a certain age? Pretty dumb IMO.

Not putting miles on your car is like not having sex with your girlfriend, so she'll be more desirable to her next boyfriend.

I don't know if this is still possible, but back in the day you could buy bulk data from DMV. It would be a piece of cake to parse out certain desirable cars with and send them letters offering to buy their clunkers. You may only get a small fraction of responses, but you could probably make a tidy sum of money doing so.

DustyCars.com offered me $2000 for my '52 a few years ago.

I was afraid of that. I'd have to see their bumpers in person first.

I'd say he gets mixed reviews on thesamba, I couldn't find a bumper review. He's out of Argentina so that's why the chroming price seems low.

My good buddy has a '53 split with hearts.
Another buddy has a '50 and a '52 zwitter. He found the 50 in a barn on it's roof, pretty well no rust at all on the bottom, but he had to do a lot of repair to the roof. Real weird.

I have matching 67's...bus and bug.

It has the original engine. Aside from the bumpers and hood, it's all original and has not been touched in 50 years. The paint on the body is original. The fenders, hood, and deck lid have been repainted. The interior is very nice, so it was probably replaced in the '60s. It sat on a VW showroom floor for 50 years.

As mentioned it is a VOLUNTARY program... if you have an old clunker sitting in your backyard that you are going to pay a junkyard to haul away it is actually a pretty good deal.

Of course no one in their right mind would sell of a 1950 VW.
