2 LEO shot and killed in Sacramento area
Cliff's notes. Two deputies approached a car in a motel parking lot. Guy hops out with an AR 15 and shoots one of them in the head, partner returns fire. Miscreants flee, attempt car jacking, shoot the guy when he does not give up his keys quick enough. Several car jackings later, they end up in Placer County, Auburn. They shot the two cops who pulled them over in Auburn, killing one of them. The guy gets away as the woman is getting arrested. Eventually guy was caught hiding in a house and gave himself up.
All the stuff that happened Sacramento County is either close to where I live now, or near my old stomping grounds. The motel where it started is right next to the movie theater where I worked in HS. The spot where he jacked the gardner's truck is across the street from where I played little league, and was on my paper route. From the article linked. Quote:

Holy crap. My heart goes out to the families of both deputies. Just completely senseless.
The men that actually arrested this scumbag have my utmost and deepest respect. Knowing what they knew at the time, I simply could not have allowed this guy to simply surrender. That's why I could never be a cop - I do not have that level of self control. I would have shot the S.O.B. given the slightest opportunity. That they remained calm enough to arrest him, trusting that he would get his in our very effed up "justice" system, speaks volumes of their discipline and professionalism. Deep down inside, though, even though I know it would have been "wrong" - I kinda wish they would have shot him. Massive kudos to all of them for being bigger men than I could have been under the circumstances.

Horrendous. Luckily there are still a lot of good folks, because parts of mankind seem to be well on its way down the toilet drain.

We always here about bad cops and rarely about good cops. I have no respect for bad cops and don't condone their actions. On the other hand I have great respect for good cops and the job they perform on a daily basis. My best wishes go out to the deceased police officers families from this tragic encounter.
