I really would like to know....

How many of you read all the posts in a thread? Or are you like me - be selective and read the shorter ones only? I have no idea how to set up a poll. I would think that shorter posts are better - yes/no?

Depends, most of the time, I read all of all of the posts, but at times, I may skip and skim a bit. It depends upon the subject, the poster, the tone of the beginning of the post (I may start reading and then stop).

In general, shorter posts are better to a point, but sometimes more info is required and some of the long posts can be interesting or entertaining.

Shorter is not necessarily better, IMO, especially in Off Topic. Sometimes a point needs to be made in context or a primary source needs to be posted, both of which could lead to a long post.

My selectivity comes at the beginning when I decide which topics to click on. Once that decision is made, I read every post mainly to insure that whatever I choose to add (if anything) has not already been mentioned. Additionally, sometimes information by a poster is inaccurate or misleading and if that is important to the topic of the thread, it should be pointed out.

That being said, if a thread degenerates to a personal conflict between posters, I will skim/skip the posts until the thread returns to topic or I'll leave the thread completely.

It depends on the topic being discussed and if I have joined in or not.
I have my view set to show the latest post first which saves time.

I think it is horribly rude and inconsiderate not to read and fully comprehend every post in a thread... how else can you...

If the title looks interesting, I use the "hover over the title to preview the thread" function to see if it warrants a closer look.

I read all the posts. If I have any value to add to the conversation I may. Most times everything is covered by the first page though.

I read until I see Rick V posting, then I know the thread has run into the toilet.

I read looking for the funny post I wanted to post to see who beat me to a good punchline. I was a little too slow this time once again.
