Finally got a truck

Looking on and off for a truck for the last few months, this one fell in my lap and I couldn't pass it up. Has the extra dent option, body is pretty beat (the "good" side is shown), but interior is close to new and mechanically it's excellent. Getting a hitch this week and already have a ton to tow. Hoping to do a lot more with early 911s and this truck is a key component.

Bought it from the original owner. Can't believe this truck was $25K way back in 2001.

Looks just like mine! Frame rust is an issue with these. They are also susceptible to squirrels eating the wiring harness.

If someone mentions the dents, just do like I do. I just say, "Yup, got those at no extra charge"

and I got it at OWP pricing! Rick, the dents are what got me this truck so I love every one of them. Seems people want 1/2 ton queens. It's a truck!

Patrick, underneath looks mostly good, nothing serious. Oddly enough the driveshafts look 2-3 years old but are original.

Only a man with no dents seeks a truck with no dents.

The worst thing about a truck with no dents is how you feel when you dent it for the first time.

15/18 mpg, yeesh.

Since I sold my Tacoma I have missed the "truck" part maybe a couple times. I have missed the 18-19mpg on the freeway exactly ZERO times.

If my current truck got 18 mpg on the freeway, I'd be so happy I'd probably do some cartwheels.

I like to drive a vehicle with a few dents. I find others on the road give me a bit more space

Shaun, congrats on your purchase!!! My Tundra gave me 11 years of trouble free driving. If you have any questions, I might be able to help... FYI, check the E-brake cable, they are known to stay on.

Thanks Moe, I will take you up on that. Thankfully it has new cables, and a lot of other new parts.

Issues I've had with mine that you might want to keep an eye on:

O2 sensor (only one in 130k miles)

Engine wiring harness is apparently very tasty (to squirrels)

Pivots on rear parking brake seize up. This causes rear brake adjusters to stop working. New pivots are $$$ but if you keep them lubed they won't seize. The issue is so bad with mine that I pull the boots back, make sure the are free, and give them a shot of white lube every oil change.

Everything under the truck from the lug nuts to the frame itself seems unusually susceptible to rust. Keep lube on the lug nuts!

An engine warning light comes on when the cats are "Not Working Efficiently." This means they are not working up to California standards, but are still working well enough to be 49 state legal. New Toyota cats are $1500, new aftermarket cats are $500. The aftermarket cats are only 49 state legal and WON'T MAKE THE WARNING LIGHT GO OUT! My solution was to put a piece of tape over the warning light, get at OBD scanner, and check every now and then to see if there are any other codes being thrown.

There's a recall on the frames of those trucks. I had one that I thought the frame was good on
took it to a Toyota dealer and they wouldn't let me drive it home.
They replaced the frame and complete front end plus all the rusted parts that broke in the process. Took about 2 weeks cost me zero.
Great customer service as I bought the truck used with 110K and never spent a nickel with Toyota.
The engine and trans are bulletproof but it's an especially anemic tow vehicle
hope you have an open trailor
