Bob Munden Says
I was watching a video of the late Bob Munden, where he stated that in the Wild West, gunfighters never faced each other and drew. He said that is pure movie invention, and that the gunfighters were all shot in the back. Is that correct?

Although I am old now, but not that old I'll take his word for it. According to quite a few books I've read about guns of that era, there were shoot outs but usually not like in the movies. Most of the time someone would just shoot the other guy or woman and be done with it.
In the late 1700s there were some real duels which are different with their own rules. |

I would have to agree that probaby no one stood there face-to-face quick-drawing the other guy. That other scenario about the ten paces turn and shoot seems equally ridiculous.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I can't imagine why you'd want to give some guy/gal you plan on killin' a chance to git you first.

Don't know how far back the dueling thing goes (didn't one of the U.S. presidents do that?)
However I have heard the same thing about the wild west (not sure if it was from the same source). I know if I were in the wild west and some badazz was coming after me I would pick him off with a rife from a couple blocks away. ![]()

Yea, a "never" is an absolute. Rare is more likely.
