Theft prevention....
I was going through a Lexus forum and thought I would check out the general section.
Came across a situation where a 2015 Lexus IS250 was stolen from the owner's driveway in Ontario, Canada. Apparently it was scanned by a scanner and the perp got away. According to the post the US side it is not so easy to do(a different system). I am going to put a steering wheel lock on mine as a deterrent for starters. Any suggestions on what I can do to protect my Lexus RX suv from theft. I park it in our garage all the time but want more protection when I am on a trip. If you think your suggestion would help the perps please pm me instead. Cheers, Guy ![]() PS It is amazing the number of folks in our hood that park their cars on the street and their garage is used for storage. |

Things like "the club" are useless. True they are close to impossible to cut or remove but if I am going to steal your car I will cut the wheel to remove a locking device. I mean if I am going to steal it do I really care about a steering wheel?
I would think some kind of disabling system would be a better option

What do you mean "scanned by a scanner"? Is a key not needed? I know a lot of Toyota cars these days have smart keys but they still have to be present to start the car.
That's why I've been looking into self storage as an investment...amazing how much crap people keep and how much they will pay to continue to keep it.

I wouldn't even pull the wheel, a set of bolt cutters, snap the wheel on one side and the club is now just that, a club and nothing more

this. if someone wants it bad enough, they will take it. use normal precautions, lock the car, etc., but worrying about it just isn't worth it.

Pretty sure that if your car were to be stolen you could find one pretty similar. Why worry? The odds of it being stolen are very low. Put a fake security light up, have a motion light in your driveway and let the insurance company do the worrying.

Don't leave the valet key in the glove box. Was at an event a few years ago, came out, and 6-7 cars stolen, about a dozen were broken into. The missing cars had valet keys in glovebox.
All had broken drivers door locks. Apparently, some models, braking the drivers door lock/handle triggers the electric windows to open. My brother's car was broken into, glovebox rifled. |
