hah!! i am no longer morbidly obese. haha.

that effen BMI index makes me laugh..

i am down to 185 lbs. i typed in 5 foot 10, and now it just tells me i am "only" a fat effer. i need to get down to 172 before i get out of the red "i'm gonna die" zone on the chart. ( i think they call that section - husky or stoutish)

super fun..that chart favors the supermodels for sure.

If you have achieved a new goal, congrats on that. I think that is great!

As far as the scale, I mean no disrespect, but here is an observation:

I am a Canadian. I recently returned from Cuba where we saw many tourists from south America and Eurpoe, but not the U.S.

Over the week we met some other people from Canada. On separate occasions different people who had not been part of previous conversations mentioned in passing that there was something odd. We all noticed that there were no fat people. I found this weight thing an interesting observation. It is not something that I had noticed at other vacation destinations.

The closest person to overweight was a british guy who spent his afternoons drinking beer at the bar.

This lead me to the conclusion that since the U.S. has less alcohol content in their beer, maybe one has to drink more calories than in other countries?
Its certainly not the food because we have the same products in Canada.

I'm 5'10 and float between 165 and 175 depending on how much beer I drink

thank you for trying to be kind to the fat folk of America...
Alcohol content has little if anything to do with the expanding girth in the US..
first..
they simple don't care how they look anymore..
next..they change the terminology ..
obese // fat.. is referred to as ' plus sized' in the women's dept. these days.
don't exercise...
now top it all of with lots of sugar & processed food..
and you have your 'average' American....

true that

the bmi scale is pretty worthless for anyone with any muscle mass. Good guideline I guess but not 1 size fits all.

We have lower ABV in our beer? What the hell do you furners drink for beer? The average beer I drink (and I only drink one a week because I'm watching my girlish figure) is about 8%

Last time I checked the BMI wanted me 3lbs below my lean body mass. Not gonna happen.

I read a stat the other day that said that the highest % of overweight people in Canada were in Alberta. Myself I am 5'10" and 173 lbs.

This reference is often made, but for every body builder there are probably 10 fatties and for these the bmi makes some sense.

I put little faith in the BMI chart. Back when I was in top condition, I was 6'0, 255; very little fat content. Nowadays, I'm 6'0, 220. According to the BMI, I'm "healthier" now (though still obese), yet in reality I'm a lot less healthy than when I was 255...Even still, most people wouldn't consider me anywhere near "fat."

All I know is that when I travel for work in the US and have to eat at restaurants, the portion sizes are ridiculous and the healthy salads have more cheese on them than a cheeseburger. Who puts cheese on a salad? I always forget that I have to tell them not to put things on 'cause more is more.

My doctor told me I needed to watch my weight, so I got it in front of me where I could see it really good.

I do, occasionally...little bit of ham or chicken, too. It's called a Chef's salad.

Ok, maybe I should rephrase that

Who puts more cheese than lettuce on a garden salad without asking their customer if they want cheese?

I can understand a morsel or two sprinkled for flavour, but...

Ah. Clarification accepted. That's not good, unless you live in Wisconsin

BMI is just an approximation. Find a place that will test your body fat.
