How Do You Carry A Murse?

This weekend, I have decided to sport a murse.

Why, oh why? Well, it is a bit warm in NYC, too warm for a jacket, and all the stuff I carry doesn't fit in skinny jeans. I mean, my thighs hardly fit in my jeans. But in truth, the stuff wouldn't fit in regular jeans. Wallet, phone, various medications (conjunctivitis and allergy), external battery for phone, water bottle, book to read when wife enters furniture store, etc. You'd need full on cargo utilities to carry it all, your pockets would clank like the Tin Man, and trotting for an elevator would get you a water bottle uppercut to the testicles.

So I have a murse. It is a olive drab canvas shoulder bag. This is one of the protective coloration strategies of the murse. Just as generations of little boys were permitted to play with GI Joe because he was an "action figure" with a rifle, this breed of murse is presented as a rugged accoutrement of war, something that might carry fragmentation grenades or belts of 7.62, instead of an iPhone, wallet, and antibiotic hand cream. I wonder if people are fooled? I certainly feel more action figured with my combat murse.

Anyway, I found out that I don't really know how to carry a murse. Here is one instance. We went to a restaurant. The chair had a rounded back, so I couldn't hang my murse there. I didn't want to put it at my feet, since its theft would leave me destitute, nameless and iPhone-less, doomed to a life on the streets. My wife offered to set it on her bench, next to her purse. I didn't want the two bags to be seen touching. So I ate dinner with my murse cradled on my lap, like a Pomeranian. This looked odd, maybe, but the murse felt good there. I may have petted it.

Was that wrong? Please share your tips for carrying a murse. I know the answers are here. Don't we say PPOT can answer any question? I look forward to your constructive replies!

Okay, I am not feeling the love here, boys.

I've tried carrying my stuff in belt pouches. It works for Batman, but on me the look is almost too manly. Like This

You've carry too much ****.

My iPhone case has 3 slots, debit card, credit card, license.

If I need to carry meds I put only what I need in a ziplock snack bag in my front pocket.

For entertainment while the wife shops I cruise Pelican on my phone.

Make sure phone is charged before you go out.

It's much easier to carry less stuff.

Cross body! The "Murse" slid around behind you.
... Adjust the strap so it doesn't bounce of your posterior as you walk.

If you're not walking adjust the strap so it's low and to the side... If you need to get something out slide it around to your front and never forget to secure it before returning it to it's default position.

"Off the shoulder". Only at the shopping center when you're picking groceries.

My current "Daily"

I don't think I'm manly enough to rock a murse. I'd aim to carry less stuff. But if I absolutely have to carry more than my pockets can stuff, I go with a Timbuk2 bike messenger bag. (I've even used it to carry a case of beer once. Fk those glass bottles were heavy after about 3 blocks.) I've got little kids (they've always got paraphernalia) so that's my excuse. Plus I commute by motorcycle sometimes.

When I have my laptop bag with me out in a public place like a restaurant, I put one leg through the shoulder strap and put it by my feet. I drew a picture of my technique for you. I am in a French restaurant in the picture. I am dining alone. I made my bag pink so you could see it better. No one can take your bag when it's in this arrangement, nor can you forget it. I'm about to eat soup in the picture.

Oh, I was at a restaurant with my sister once, when she whipped out a little metal S-hook thingie from her purse. She hung one end onto the edge of the table, and the other held her purse. Looked way too fashionable for her to have bought it at Sears, though. If you want, I can ask her where she got it.

I carry a murse. I have a couple that I use depending on the activities that day. If I'm going to carry my ipad, I use my small Timbuk2. If just my two phones, wallet, car keys and pharmaceuticals, I use my black canvas extra small messenger bag. Either murse I will wear crossbody.

So, does the murse have to match your shoes like a belt traditionally did?

How about a ak47 chest mag pouch to hold all your stuff? Or if you want to stay "free world", you could always get a tactical vest from the surplus store. Or a fishing vest like all the old guys at the "home" wear?

Guess the metrosexual is dead and we have arrived at spornosexual...

I don't get why it can't be seen touching a purse. That certainly looks better than in your lap.

All my casual gear has transitioned to motorcycle wear, so lots of pockets. I rarely need to carry a bag of any sort, even my Kindle and iPad Mini fit in pockets.

I know where she got it. I used to do IT for an insurance co. The wife of the owner created those. I've seen more in one room than I care to in my lifetime.

Real men don't wear skinny jeans... Wear jeans with real pockets, cut down on all the clutter and problem solved.

Seriously, a book? Who still carries those! Download it on your phone

Carrying...........

Right front pocket gets keys and pocket knife, left front, small change. Left rear is where I carry my wallet (kept cleaned out and relatively thin). This leaves the right rear pocket open for a small auto pistol. I usually carry my iPhone 4s but if necessary, it can go in the left front pocket with the small change. All carried in a pair of normal fit blue jeans. No excessive bumps or bulges and certainly no "Murse". I prefer to keep my "man card" intact, thank you.
