Don'T Fill Up With Gas

Saw a Guy on the news say don't fill up your tank and his reason was if you fill up today the price will be lower in 5 days and the gas station will have sold less gas and that will drive up supplies. I put some gas in @ $1.99 and thought that was great 3 days later it was @ $1.89.

But what do you do while stranded on the side of the road for 5 days? That $2 you might save won't go far...just sayin'

I buy it when I need it, and I don't worry about the buck I could have saved next week. It's kind of like food, you need it when you need it

How much is your time worth? Yep, that $2 you save is but a drop in the Atlantic in the grand scheme of things.

Yup... I'll look for a cheaper station when I need gas, but I don't like to play the odds once the light comes on. I'm not a fan of pushing the car...

I always go to the same station regardless of price, they are usually one of the cheaper ones, but not always. I don't have to fight for position 5 deep like I would at the local cheap spot, and this station, being almost out of town, is much easier to get into and out of. saving a buck or two is not worth the aggrevation of dealing with all that traffic.

Yep. I pulled into an Arco station yesterday that had cheap gas and really thought that a fight might break out between all of the bargain hunters trying to get a pump on the correct side of their car. Everyone jockeying and new people pulling in constantly from all directions.

I looked across the street and there was an empty Chevron station with gas 10 cents more, (still cheap), drove across and filled-up in peace and quiet. Fuganay.

The more you put in the heavier the car, the more you use.

I always fill up and I got to the same station that sells 100% gas and it is not the cheap place.

This is right up there with the old "Boycott gas stations on [date]" chain emails.

It's funny how people will step over a dime and never think twice about it but but will drive across town to save a penny or two per gallon. I always get a good laugh whenever I see people in the chaos mode at WallyWold (Murphy Oil) scampering to find the shortest line when just across the street, the convenient store is selling fuel about $.03 to $.10 more per gallon. The guy across the street has figured out there are plenty of people like myself who will are more than happy to pay more to avoid the pandemonium at Wallyworld. Even if I have to fill my truck, worse case scenario I'm only going to pay $2.50 more for a tank.....worth the premium every time.

Counterpoint: gas prices are very fluid. All it takes is a storm (Katrina or Hurricane Sandy), or a wold crises lik war to break out, and gas prices can spike at drop of a hat. Thus, anyone who predicts that gas will be $x.xx lower in 5 days is full of speculation and nonsense.

I know the gas stations in my area that offfer the lowest prices, and typically try to get gas from them. That isn't going out of my way to save a dime - but it does involve a little bit of planning on my part. Example: I try not to run my tank to empty and be force to fill up at stations near my work, since gas prices there (Bergen County) can be $0.15 to $0.25 more than where I live (Passaic County).

As for chasing gas prices: years ago, I use gas stations I know and are reputable. This helps to prevent undesirable folk from lifting my cc number...
