Anybody ever have an ex police car ?

I've been tempted a few times. The local officer always lets me know when one goes up for auction . They auction them off sealed bid . They usually go dirt cheap .
Id like a beater that I can load the family , dog, and use for rental house work if I needed . I bet people get the heck out of your way .
It looks like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/2007-Chevrolet-Tahoe-SSV/293131115308?hash=item443ff9db2c:g:tikAAOSwUKddBZ~ x
Could you do it ?
My wife and kid say DO IT DAD!

I looked at a few last year, and ultimately decided against it. After visiting a few forums I learned you need to check the engine hours as well as the mileage. I saw a cheap Charger, only about 130k miles, but it had thousands and thousands of hours on the engine. I also looked at explorers, and found out the rear hatch only unlocks with a switch inside, so it's not easy to load and unload stuff. They also had issues with carbon monoxide from exhaust getting in where equipment had been removed from the rear and they didn't seal the holes. I'm not saying the Tahoe is the same, but it might have similar issues.

Uh, wasn't that light bar supposed to have been removed?

Read about some serial rapist/killer a while back using that to pull over women.

I’ve considered it. I kind of thought an ex-pd Crown Vic would scratch my itch for an American boat to wallow around in for cheap. But I’m still holding out for something from the 60s.

I too like thos cop SSs, if I anything happens to my 2500 Suburban, I would highly consider one of these, depending on the tow capacity.

Cheap beaters, don't expect more and you won't be upset when it spins a rod or whatever. Friend had a 90s blazer cop car, cool rig. He loved pacing traffic on the highway.

My first job at GM was evaluating brake calipers from NYC taxis. Except for rust, they held up pretty well. For 2 years.

We have one for the kids’ car. 2014 white charger with dog dish wheels and the spotlight. Very obviously a cop car. Other drivers do one of three things- fly up from behind on the highway and then suddenly slow down to match the speed of the charger, pull over to right lane as soon as they notice it in their rear view which is awesome, or (by far the worst) immediately drop to the speed limit and not pull over due to single lane road or stupidity and hold you up for miles.

I like the all black Tahoe with black wheels and the small chrome hubcaps. Add the big WTF bumper on the front. Maybe a few antennas.

I’ve got an 07 or 08 Crown Vic Police Interceptor. I bought it for $700 to transplant the front end into my 53 Merc M100 pickup.

It drives really nice, handles OK, gets reasonable fuel economy.

My kids will likely have a old cop car for their first cars. They are very safe.

A buddy of mine purchased an ex-Pitt Police Explorer from the Pitt surplus auction. Has the steelies and the spots still mounted and is two-tone. It had low miles, but as was mentioned, thousand of hours on the motor. Ended up needing a top-end rebuild about 1-1/2 years into ownership. It does move the traffic though when cruising rt 28.
