Un-naturally white teeth

It seems as though every single person who has a job that requires them to have their face shown on tv or in the movies now has teeth so white that they look like chiclets.

It's only been in the last year or two that this has ramped up to where the local tv news "talent" is getting this "improvement". These folks didn't have teeth that white a couple of years ago when I cut the cable and stopped watching network tv.

How's this trend gonna end up?

Will the natural yellowish color of human teeth soon be socially unacceptable and lead to uncomfortable situations or ostracization during the course of normal human contact, such as dating, workplace events, recreational gatherings?

Will we as a society soon find the "yellowish" color unsettling, in the same way that some of us might feel about women with abnormal amounts of {for example, underarm} hair?

Will treatment to whiten teeth soon be quick and cheap, and maybe even safe?

Does this bother me more than I think it should?

I'm joking.

Teeth whitening makes my teeth hurt badly. I can't do it. Not even OTC stuff.

back in the day, the chems they used were so caustic, it stripped the enamel down to the schizzle. Then tooth decay set in. Hence toothless rich folk.

Wait until other things start to show up like colored eye lenses to match peoples skin tones and clothing colors. I'm sure other types of things will follow.

When I see a good looking gal with perfect, white teeth I almost automatically think that she MUST be high maintenance. Not that she would give me the time of day but just sayin"....

Years ago my Dad was on business in Germany. My Dad looks pretty german and does not stick out at all. He got in a cab with his German business associate and the cab driver looked in the rearview mirror and started talking to him in English. My dad asked the cab driver how he knew that he was American. The guy answered..."that's easy, straight white teeth."

I was watching a Tom Petty concert on tv today and was struck by how white his teeth were, even though he smoked on stage and they showed two packs of Marlboro reds in his dressing room.

Yeah, they might even figure out some way to surgically implant fake boobs or butts, or hair. At some point there will be nose surgeries or wrinkle tightening, sanding the skin or coloring it. Chemicals to unkrinkle or even krinkle hair. Sucking out fat or stapling stomachs shut. Breath deodorizers, nosehair removers...

Pretty soon everybody will look fake.

Bad teeth are a non-starter for me. Just too easy to fix.

As an example... If you have a look at older Clint Eastwood movies (the classic Westerns) you'll see that he had very natural looking "clean" and almost totally white teeth.
In fact they looked almost transparent at the edges. This is a result of intense cleaning but without any whitening agents so it looked good IMO.
This was of course before caps became popular in Hollywood.

Most of the over the top white teeth you see today are actually caps. One way to know is to look at the gum line. Usually there is a separation, an unnatural gap or the teeth bulge.
Also... Often as people age they loose bone in their jaw resulting in a loss of gum which makes it looks like their teeth are getting longer.
With the use of caps it's possible to make just about anyone have a near perfect smile but like anything they need to be maintained.

---------------------------------------------------------------

As a side note. Hitler suffered from periodontal disease and therefore had pronounced gum loss. His teeth were in a really bad way at the time of his death probably causing him a lot of pain and discomfort.
He'd had extensive bridge work and his gum loss was so bad some experts claim you can see it in the movies of the time while he's talking.

This condition was probably caused by his WW1 service and later time in prison (bad personal hygiene and nutrition)
Interestingly it was reported that his dentist sketched his teeth from memory which helped the Allies identify his body.
Although this story may not be whole truth because the Russians supposedly have what is left of his scull and jaw.

Just seems like perfect teeth are mandatory anymore for any on air talent, down to the local cable access channel.
Just the world we live in...

(I guess since I took a couple of years off from network tv it was jarring for the few weeks that I hooked up a HD antenna to watch a few football games this season)

Try Wite-Out. Works great on bloodshot eyes.
