who knew buying a knife would be so challenging?!

i have a retarded bucket list.

one thing is to own one custom made blade. so wanting only one, i have to choose carefully. i whittled my decision (<--see what i did there?:)) down to one blade from one maker.

Adventure Sworn. the HUNTSMAN.

you really cant buy one. he cranks out a dozen blades at a time. random styles, random options..and sells them either by auction, or on some forum. finding the exact one i want will be a friggen unicorn. from the last run, he has one left!! not the one i want as much. oh well..glad i'm not obsessive (in green font please)

Huntsman

Before moving to Huntsville we lived Jacksonville, AL. There is a knife manufacturer located there (Bear & Son Cutlery :: Everyone respects a bear) and every year, just around the time of Thanksgiving, these folks would have a massive outdoor/indoor sale. Of course, all of the 'regular' knifes were available (some at greatly discounted prices) but also many of the experimental, prototype knifes were on sale. Some of this latter group were absolutely incredible - some strange, many absolute works of art, all well-made, one-of-a-kind, and certainly custom (and OBTAINABLE!). I remember that some of the Damascus blades available were an experimental alloy. In some of the earlier Thanksgiving sales (ten or so years ago), the sales booths extended throughout the manufacturing facility and the plant was in operation - it was incredible to see the machinery and labor involved in making these knifes.

This information certainly does nothing to ease the dilemma that you are in... maybe check to see if your location has knife manufacturers within driving distance and see if/how they deal with their prototypes???

No offense, but this "bushcraft co" guy doesn't look to be doing anything special. All I see are basic 3-piece knives that any beginning knifemaker could grind out. There are literally dozens of guys putting out solid, professionally heat-treated bushcraft and hunting knives out on BladeForums alone.

Vash, I am starting to think just maybe you might possibly be a kinife-aholic.
Not that is anything wrong with that.

Geronimo '74 02-10-2015 12:44 PM

EDIT: and just for good measure, and since they are discounted on Knifecenter, today, I bought a second one.... :D
(Is it normal to get a good, bulletproof, lifetime warranty knife and then get a same one again, just because you want new one to keep at home as a 'back up'??? :D:D:D)

Wow :(

USPS tracking tells me mine shows up at my office tomorrow. :)
Mine is custom, but I just picked one he made. I didn't choose materials. To do a real custom I have to win a lotto. He draws names to do customs!Insane. I didn't want one that bad.

It's still being processed by customs, shouldn't be to long.

Looking forward to seeing your pics.
