Why do women like to watch sad chick flicks?

my wife asked me to watch Up In The Air with her. It's the George Clooney movie from 2 or 3 years ago about a traveling axe man, one who fires people for a living. He basically avoids commitment until he falls for a female frequent business traveler. That movie was depressing. Who wants to leave a movie feeling down? Why do chicks like a good cry?

Chick flicks
Something to do with jerking their already fragile over center emotions...
Perhaps to live vicariously in someone elses drama ....Like they do not create enough of their own...LOL

Can't say all women like them but certainly more then men (unless your homosexual) which would suggest its bio-chemical. Don't women have more neural connections and a slightly larger hippocampus then men? And I remember reading a that homosexual men also have similarities with the female brain. If that is the case then its a neuro-chemical thing like a nice push of serotonin or dopamine or something. I'm sure I'm simplifying it but it stands to reason - its all chemistry.

Reminds me of an old joke...

What do women get out of watching porn?

Disappointed.....

I watched "Up In The Air" somewhere along the way and found it depressing as hell too...

Dunno what to say about the choices that chicks make.
I think that they like them because they can sit there for 90 minutes and say, "Well, my life isn't so bad after all."

I really enjoyed that movie.

I might be in the minority here, but...I'm a dude and I like good writing and acting. I don't really care for action.

Stuff like Up In The Air, Eternal Sunshine, American Beauty, Braveheart (for the final scene) is fantastic, imo.

I watch movies to be moved. I want to feel something after the film is done. Not just to distracted for a couple of hours.

Up in the air isn't as bad as some of the others they like. They like to get caught up in emotion and movies trigger those.

At least it wasn't a 20-something wedding movie- those are so dumb and emotionally overscripted you find yourself wishing for a sudden need for a trip to the ER to escape. I will not watch one, on purpose.

I like action. I also like a good well written movie. I prefer feel good endings to sad endings. American Beauty was a great movie, but I've only seen it once, and it'll probably stay that way. Braveheart is a great movie for action, story and the end. I also liked Gladiator and Big Fish. I think I've seen Gladiator a few times. I've only seen Big Fish once. I may watch it again someday, but not certain.

I think I mostly watch movies for escape or distraction, but if I can be moved by one that's great too. I just don't expect that so I'm not left dissappointed.

NO! It is because they see how good the Chick in the flick has it compared to their own miserable lives with the dicks they married.

Women love movies about other women with dumb problems. Solution is always simple in those flicks- dump the prick, go find another dude- they are like busses for a hot chick.

Didn't he have a serious boning experience in that movie with Vera Farminga? Somehow I don't find that depressing.

I prefer to be called a penis.

We were watching one of my movies... you know the one where the hero jumps out of the car doing 70MPH with the hot female spy driving, rolls to a stop then fights off 20 ninjas, runs into a building under full auto gun fire, gabs a basket of puppies and runs out of the building, building explodes as he exits throwing him and the puppies into the air, car doing 70MPH returns with the passenger side open, hero and puppies land in the front seat safe and sound and they speed away under full auto gunfire.

Wife says "oh, your movies are SO unrealistic!

I'm like yeah,

Her movie:
Guy and gal bump into each other in the airport, she is a rich heiress engaged to an even richer super hot looking guy who is a jerk... Guy in the airport is a writer... when they bump she spills her starbucks on her designer luggage... he apologizes and offers to pay to have the luggage cleaned... she is infuriated and won't speak to him... their flights are called and they take off in different directions... in the 30 seconds they interacted he fell in love... he finds her on the internet, fly's to her town, several comic/tragic scenes later she falls in love with him, leaves her handsome/rich fiancé at the alter and runs away with the poor writer.

Oh yeah, that happens all the time!
