My Annual January Rant!*%##!*&#

Footballs that are 1.5 lbs under/over inflated? This is what highlights the news cycle and is considered to be important? Pffft! I remember when football was a real game, with little bytching and real men actually played it. You could watch Larry Csonka take the ball and run STRAIGHT at the opposing team like a bulldozer with the throttle stuck open. When they finally tackled him, he would stand up, offer his hand to some lineman/linebacker that outweighed him by fifty+ pounds, and help him to his feet. It was as if to say; “Let me help you up, because, I’ll be right F’ING back!”

You never used to see anyone that made a tackle, get up and run ten yards into the open field and do some “twerking dance” as if no one saw him make the play. Hey numbnuts - we saw you make the tackle, and if someone happened to look away at that moment, they just announced your number and name over the loudspeaker. Now GTF back on your side of the down line.

Now they got a penalty for (ready for this?) ...taunting. Taunting!!?? Are you kidding me. Someone's feelings must be getting hurt. What’s next; crying towels handed to you for someone dissin’ your tats?

I have purchased my last bar of Lava soap. In olden days, when you took the paper wrapper off and started to use it, by god you could see the gravel and small rocks; you could feel the sand and small particles of dark shyte brought straight out of volcano’s eruption and embedded in that bar of soap. Now, after I remove a bar from the paper, it’s as smooth as a baby’s butt.

All you fellow gym rats - are you seeing any “New Year Resolutionists this year?” Usually, walking into the club in January looks like a discount lunch day at the local VFW hall. Every overweight guy (within three counties), along with his pudgy wife/GF following a trainer around and vowing to “Gonna’ get in shape this year.” Surprisingly, it’s not happening here this year. Very curious. (Well, they were usually all gone by March anyway).

Now we do have the new millennials (and whatever the new brood are now called) who cannot do a SET without picking up their mobile device to check Facebook, Twitter, take a selfie or check a blog to see if perhaps ...the NFL has found more faulty footballs?

I wonder what happened to the guy, that several years ago, came up with the new-wave mantra of; “AN ARMY OF ONE!” Really? Perhaps things have changed in the military. When I served, the entire premise seemed to be; “We are in this together --I got your back.” Maybe he got hired by the agency that came up with, “Chrysler - Imported from Detroit”(?)

Oh well -- Happy (belated) New Year gentlemen!

'kin-a man. Back in my day we played football with real feet. Balls were provided by last week's losing team, like in bull-fighting. I know just what you mean. Buncha pussies these days....

You might want to cut back on the steroids. Instead of being "Comfortably numb" you seem to be abnormally irritated with a bunch of first world complaints.

Oh BTW, say what you will about the advertising guys you mocked but, you quoted the Army and the Chrysler ads. That means you confirmed that the ads worked because you talked about the product being advertised.

In the meantime, lighten up Francis.

Hah, when I saw the title, the first thing that popped into my head was the influx of newbie short timers hitting the gym. It's been one of the constants when I've belonged to a gym (sometimes I use my own equipment), the sea of humanity that floods Gold's. They show up for 6-8 weeks, suck time on the equipment you want to use, and generally get in the way. I've hit the point where I'm embarrassed to admit I'm not very friendly to the ones who get in my way.

It was bonkers at my gym yesterday.

I always try to take a sabbatical from the gym for the month of January, and work out at home or the firehouse. The place is intolerable. This year has been the worst I've ever seen. But on the good side, the resolutioners are already starting to dwindle out. The changing gym atmosphere over the past few years has really turned me off.
