Power goes out for 2 weeks. Are you prepared?

Here, we can get a hurricane. Power can be out for 2 weeks, during which time it will go back to being a HOT summer.

This winter storm is putting down snow. Not as bad as an ice storm, or an early storm with the leaves still on the trees. But it could knock power out for a couple of weeks for some people.

Are you ready for 2 weeks without power?

I have a 30 Kw and a 4500 watt generators and 50 gallons of fuel....The plan is to run the 4500 watt to keep most things operating. The 30 Kw is for my business but it will power everything I own at my house.

I have a kegorator and normally 10 gallons of homebrew on tap. I've got a generator to keep the kegorator going. I'm good.
Come to think of it, that 10 gallons might not get me through if my wife and kids are home with me the entire time.

Plenty of firewood for the wood stove, a running spring, and an earth-sheltered home, I'll survive, but bathing can be very inconvenient.

80 gallons of gas in the Big Ass Rv with a gererator that I can hook to the house easily. 15 gallons of gas for the Honda 2000 gererator, 20,000 gallon pool for water and toilets. Six months of emergency food supply (dehydrated), Plus 750 rounds of 40 and 500 rounds of 9 and a list of the names and addresses of the Mormons in the hood. I'm good. Also its only about 57 degrees here right now.

Keep the Targa fueled up, you're going to want to be able to recreate!

I skipped beer in favor of vodka. Many uses. Convenient that my most excellent new neighbors are LDS and have a cargo ship sized metal storage container on their property full for the reckoning. They have 9 mm up the wazoo but I have .308. Great partner potential.

My biggest concern (worst case) will always be potable water.

Food? We don't eat much anyway.

Six months, or so, of freeze dried stuff for like $175. Shelf life of 10-20 years. I tried the stroganoff, not great, but edible, certainly in a pinch. I had a whole lot worse in the USMC in 1971-73.

Big storm for us means lots of downed trees......I spend all day out in the snow cutting firewood....With homes on either side of the mountains, I've gone from one to the other where the power is on.......No power means:

Wood stove for heat and cooking
Generator for a few lamps, internet, TV, fridge and mirco-wave.....It's a way of life....
Many times, been the last to get power in the area......5 days is about the longest....

All I can say is yes and lots of fresh water here.
I have told people and told people that stores carry a supply of 3 days ahead of food stuffs at the most , if there was not a "run" on it.
No crime in being prepared.

They should be. I always thought it was part of their religion.

I read about The Osmond's years ago and they wrote that they were Preppers.
