WTF is with these worms that come out when it rains?

I've noticed these worms right up underneath my garage doors when it rains and I raise the doors. It's been raining all day and there were probably 100 of these under the door when I got home. When I opened the other garage door tonight, there had to be 300 of them. They look too big to be maggots and too small to be earthworms. There's no stench of death anywhere, but I've seen this happen a few times. WTF?

They're steel or aluminum doors.

Is there a flower bed nearby?
Looks like a form of earthworm that's come out of the soggy soil to keep from drowning.

Can't help with the work type, but yes, worms come to the surface when the ground gets too wet.

Do they have a bland taste, or a sharp bitter flavor?

I'd think not all that heady but leaving a short, full, tailing smack.

They look like leatherjackets; aka crane fly larvae.

My 14 year old in-house entomologist says they could be cockroach larvae.

Really? Have your entomologist check that out on google. Roaches pop out of their egg as tiny, tiny little things that look like roaches. I don't think there is a wormy.maggoty larval form that roams around.
